Cool! This is how they create a new model. Panoz was only choosen as base because of the similar wheel arches. But the overall length was to short, so they cut the Panoz in the middle and lenghtened the whole piece...

My god he is crazy! But in a good way, I honestly think that the dbr9 is the most beautiful racer ever

that's some really good information, I d never thought they d make the car out of one firm block of putty and then shape it?
I d think they used atleast a decent amount of styrene for the main shapes, but I am decently wrong here!

Wow, almost like a behind the scenes look at the contruction, thats something I've always wanted to see.

Can't wait for this kit to come out, although that may not be for a while I think I'd like one.

I'm I being a bit thick here - why is the model now cut in half? I don't get what is going on totally.. Sorry for asking, but why use so much putty, is this a mold for a new resin cast of the DBR9 - A truly fantastic race car BTW.

I'm guessing the master has been cut in half as part of the mold making progress. Very interesting insight to how resin kits are designed, thanks for pointing it out. I imagine injection kits are all done using CAD/CAM these days.

Giminy Christmas thats insane! Yea, my best guess they cut it in half for the moulding process.

I would suspect that the car was not wide enough and he is adding to the center of the car. There is no reason to cut a pattern in half to make a mold that I am aware of.

The site says the body is too long, so his quick remedy is to cut it in half and widen it to bring it back into proportion. He also says sometimes the masters are made from an entire block of resin, but he used the Panoz since the wheelwells were similar in design.

Bodies don't need to be cut in half to mold, btw.

Just did a translation of the page and David is right, Etienne is widening the master, calls it adding the "coefficient of exaggeration". :)

Hi Etienne,

I already own some of your products, and I like them very much. Mostly the R390 transkit for the long version and the new spiderman YZR-M1

And when I saw this thread, it seems that my dream comes true
Do you have any plan when will be this kit available?

Also could you please share us some of your projects

Greetings from Hungary!

I looked at this some time ago, and had no idea what you was doing, even more so when you cut it in half.. But it does look like the DB9, a truly stunning motor.. I'm sure a few members on the board are looking forward to getting their mits in this one, wouldn't mind a DB9 model myself..

Great putty work, just how you do this, beyond belief really..

Welcome! Your work is amazing and i think i speak for all the AF members when i say, we are honored to have you here as a member. I have a few of your products and must say that when other companies fall short on a detail, your there to make it right, thank you.
One question, how did you get into this business? did you make model prototypes for auto manufacturers at some point or was it just the love for modelling or what?

I started building models for myself, as every of you, then for some friends, mainly 1/43rd.
After duties, I was waiting for a job as flight engineer, so I placed an ad to get somme 1/43rd kits to build... And AMR answered! When I came there, no more models to build, so he asked me if I could do a pattern, I said "well, have a try", and so I started... It came "easily", and when Air France decided to reduce numbers of Flight engineers and so not to employ me, I was not wondering, found my way...

Welcome! I've built many Renaissance models over the last few years, and enjoyed them all. I'm really looking forward to builing the 1:24 DBR9 to join the 1:43rds I'm doing from 'another French company' :shakehead

Will you be releasing a 1:43 wheel/tyre set seperate from the 1:43 model to replace the totally awefull items in their kit? I've used some of your sets in the past to fix up several kits.

Of course... I never modify a winning team

BTW, It's just because I also make the 1/43rd model, you can see it alongside its 1/24th sistermodel...
