Denali Navigation System Problems

My wife and I took delivery of an '05 Denali XL and we love it with one exception. We have been having problems with the detail on the Nav DVD. We bought the car in Columbiana Ohio and could not find our address at home. Even the service manager (Todd, who is really good) couldn't find his home address 3 or four miles away. Some addresses on a street will come in, and others will not.

The answer we got from the dealer is that it is a GMC problem. We contacted GMC customer support and their only answer was to file a complaint with the BBB and go for arbritration. They also told us that there is supposed to be a new "upgraded" disc coming out this fall and we can BUY it when it is available. We love the car and even the Nav system when it works, but these responses have been totally unacceptable.

Has anyone else had these problems or does anyone have a solution?

I have an 04 Denali and I've had similar problems with my nav. Put in an address and the nav couldn't find it. It couldn't even find the city. the funny thing is once I got to my location via maps the nav new exactly where I was, but it couldn't get me there. Its not as if the nav didn't recognize the city, I just couldn't input it so I could get to my destination.

The GMC nav definately needs some help. Hopefully the new map system coming out will help with this problem. I'm hoping it is a map problem rather than a system problem.

Let me know if you get the new map and if it makes a big difference.

Take noticed of the Road Names as you travel. I had the same problem when I moved to LA. I would being looking for Hollywood BLVD, and input it as Hollywood Blvd, Hollywood Boulevard, it turns out the disc knows it as Old Hollywood Blvd. So try that. It's really finicky and it takes time to learn. What made you decide on a Denali XL if you don't mind me asking? What drew you to it? I was drawn to the grill and GMC name :iceslolan I went with the Yukon Model, I felt it wasn't worth the extra money for the six inches in the back. Plus I had no need for as it's only three of us.

Sorry to hear. I have the GMC TNR in my Hummer and Yukon and both work perfect. I used to have a 2000 Honda Odyssey with factory Nav and these GM-Delphi models are far superior. I heard that the lead on the antenna can easily be broken. Perhaps this occured at the factory? Also, at some point the OnStar antenna and the GPS antenna became one unit. If that's the case in your rig, perhaps there is some interference. The dealer should fix it under warranty.

If however your GPS has a separate antenna and you want to check the lead, I have a install manual that I can mail to you.

I don't think its a problem with the antenna. I think its either the map software or the navigation software.

There must be a site where GMC or Chevy techies hang out who know how to disable the part of the nav where you need to be parked to program the nav. My wifes BMW used to have a set up screen come on every time and I was able to find software to disable it from coming up everytime.

Whatever the case may be, I can't understand why a dealer won't address the issue. How unfortunate! I would take it to another dealer.
