That is a good looking car, man I love those Cobals SS's...Im trying to convince my parents to accept this deal from GM where they would buy the Protege and sell us a Cobalt SS...then in 2 years when I graduate id buy it from my rents....
but seriously man that is a really nice car...hows the 5-speed tho? the GM 5-speeds that I have experienced have been pretty shitty and nothing compared to the RSX...is this one better?

It's fidgity at first, along with the clutch, but still pretty smooth and sturdy(this car loves to be powershifted tho). Biggest complaint I have is that I think the clutch is a little weak. But now that's it's got some more miles on it, it seems to grab much better. The car also got a good amount quicker with more miles as well(along with myself learning it's limits/capabilities). Overall it's a kick ass daily driver that can get well over 30mpg if driven with care. Get one if you can, you won't be dissapointed. Plus it's a car seen few and far between.
Oh yeah, one more thing about gear changes...
The clutch needs to be in pretty much all the way to make shifts, otherwise...GRIIIIIND. Hah.
Which isn't bad once you get used to it cause the clutch doesn't have very much travel.

nice car man, you ever see one without that wing though? Theres a guy on jbody.org who remove that wing, it looks really sleek without the wing.
But other than that nice car, i to also think they are a cross between a Civic and a TC. Still nice cars.

I know, the wing is a little much. But it makes up for it's ridiculousness in functionality. It really holds the car nice an steady passed the 120mph mark. The thing feels like you're doing about 85-90 at those speeds, kinda scary actually. You get sort of a false sense of security, unlike my Camaro which lets you KNOW you're doing well in excess of 100 mph.
Also, even tho I hate to admit...I kinda like it. HAHA.

how does that boost gauge light up at night? does the leters and the needle glow red? or is it just the ring behind the bezel that lights up?

It's a custom gauge from Autometer that matches the gauges. It's a very nice piece. The letters and needle do infact glow red.

uhh you do realize that wings do very little on a FWD car correct? Its not the wing holding that car down, its the suspension and tires.

street_racer_00
07-13-2005, 02:19 AM
I was about to say what Tat did...when you are going 120 mph, any rear-end downforce, regardless of whether the car is FWD, RWD, AWD is good...it's simple really....wings create downforce...downforce is good...it really depends on whether or not the wing is properly designed more than anything.
BullDog71ss
07-13-2005, 02:21 AM
The wing on the SS has a fairly agressive upward facing lip just on the end. You can kind of see it the pics I posted. I believe that is what makes this one effective.
-Jayson-
07-13-2005, 02:35 AM
its not effective it all, its just there for looks. IF you took that wing off, you wouldnt notice a difference when driving unless you were going 120+ MPH
BullDog71ss
07-13-2005, 03:11 AM
Did I not specifically say that it helps while doing 120+ mph? Lets take a look...

hahahahahahha LMAO
Come on now, play nicely children....actually, why not just settle this the old fashioned way with 9 rounds of bare knuckle boxing...no? oh well...street race it is...
With the wings, what's more annoying is ricers putting on aftermarket wings which are not placed properly. Yes, let's just take off a wing that some engineer spent 3 weeks designing and replace it with this giant eye sore because of course we know better.

Well also, and I'm generalizing here, those ricers put the wings on their car with god knows what intentions, and it slows down straightline speed, which completely defeats the purpose of what they should be trying to do...a properly designed wing would slow down straightline speed too...but you don't have wings for speed...you have them for stability in a straight line and downforce in the corners.
Edit: okay, those brilliant F1 designers create wings that have no negative effects on straightline speed whatsoever...my bad :icon16:

So, nobody seems to want to play. Which is fine, I actually enjoy just cruising listening to some tunes with that soft barratone exhaust note pulsing away at 1700rpm.
I have yet to break 100mph in the car, fastest I've been is 85mph... on a city street on the test drive... with my mom riding passenger. All I needed for me to ask the manager "how much was it again?"

With tax, title, registration and any other little bullshit DMV fee's it was a touch over $17,000.
Not bad for a car that'll do 13 second passes all day with nothing done to it. Gets decent gas milege too, so far it looks like I've been averaging 19-20mpg. Not too shabby for a V8, just gotta keep the RPMs below 2000rpm to get the good milege haha.
