power window motor replacement question

Hello there...

So sorry to bother everyone with this question but thought maybe someone could help.

I am replacing my driver side power window motor on my 96 Jimmy. I tested fuses and power running to the motor as well as any mechanisms sticking. The problem is definitely the motor. I got a new motor, hooked it up, and tested it and it runs fine.

My question is, do I have to remove the regulator from the door as well as the motor? The manuals I have show the motor hidden inside the door and you have to remove the regulator to get to the motor to replace it. However, when I took off the door panel, the motor is right there and it looks like all I would have to do is drill out the three rivets holding the motor to the regulator, replace the motor, and bolt it on. Do you know if this is the case? I know the manuals say that the regulator may kick if the counterweight (motor) is removed and that this may also cause the glass to drop in the door and shatter. However, my window is all the way down (unfortunately or fortunately it got stuck in the fully down position). Would I still need to remove the regulator or secure it with a 1/4 inch bolt if the weight of the window is already at its lowest point?

Thanks for any assistance.

James
