I hate minimum wage workers

Just because a job isn't exactly what you want to do, doesn't mean you can just do a half-assed job. It may be a shitty job, but as long as you do it with a good attitude you'll feel great through it all.

But some people just don't understand this. Like this stupid bitch at Meijer (supermarket / retail store). It was pretty early, around 11.00 I'd say, that me and two of my friends went to get a few things for the night (cookies, juice, ice cream, the usual) and the one girl had to get cat food (fuckin weird, I know).

Anyways, we decide to hit up the self checkout lanes. I think everyone here knows pretty much what they are, just automated checkout machines that you don't need a cashier for. They just have the one worker who sits at a podium to help you out or anything. We get up to one of the lanes, start scanning our stuff. We get to the cat food bag (this was one of those monster bags, must have been like 20 lbs or something) and try scanning it. After a bit of fiddling, we get to scan right. We place it down in a bag but the machine messes up. It says 'please remove the last item and re-scan'. So we do.

This is when things get fucked up.

The lady from the podium, this old black lady, comes up to us and says 'what are you doing?'

'Re-scanning this'

'Why?'

'Because the screen told us to'

So she rolls her eyes and sighs at us. She then snatches the bag from my friend's hand and slams it on the side by the bags. The machine message pops up again to re-scan.

'See, that message'

'No, that's not what you're supposed to do.'

'We're not?'

She doesn't answer my last question, she just starts taking all of our stuff out of the bags and puts it down on the ground. Then the machine pops up with a new message, 'Please remove all items from the bags'. By this point all of us are just standing around looking at each other. So now the lady walks over to her podium, grabs a stack of receipt paper rolls and slams it on the scanner. She then presses wildy at the touch screen, but nothing happens. So she lifts up the scanner glass and starts poking the scanner laser. Great work there, I'm sure you're plenty qualified to adjust the laser in one of these machines.

So now she just does the one thing that blew my mind that night. She puts the scanner glass back down, leaves the paper, and walks over to her podium. And just sits there. So now my friends and I are just standing around, with all our stuff on the ground, and the lady is just sitting there.

'Uhh.. are you going to help us?'

'No'

We just look at each other like 'what the fuck?'

'Uh.. why not?'

She just stares at other customers.

So now another worker walks by, I think we was like a stock boy or something, we ask him for help.

'Ask the lady at the podium for help'

'She won't help us'

So he shouts to the black chick, 'Hey! What's wrong with the machine?'

She responds, 'I don't know, they broke it'

Thats when I fucking lost it.

'Get me a fucking manager out here.'

The lady is offended by this, 'Excuse me?'

'I said I want to see a fucking manager right now'

'He ain't here right now'

'What's your name?' (it's Theresa)

With that we just stormed out with the intention of coming back and talking to a manager. Luckily CVS was still open so we were able to get some snacks. I'll be going back the store to talk with a manager, that was just ridiculous the way we were treated. It's not so much that she couldn't fix the problem, but that she was treating us like vandals or something. Uncalled for. I'll let you guys know what's up later tonight.

Yea deffinitly get back there and raise a complaint against that women. Her job requires her to be nice and help customers not act like an ass. Mostl likely nothing will happen to her but its the point that should be brought up to a higher authority. At least you were calm I probably would have thrown the stuff on the flor so she would have to clean it up.

If it was that I mentioned she was black, well, it's just a fact. If it was an old Indian women, I would have said old Indian women. The statement carries no offense with it

Go talk to the manager, ive worked at grocery stores for years, even if youve had a shitty day theres no reason for her to do what she did. And for future reference, there is always a manager on duty.

she sounded like an ass ive worked in the service industry for years and im pretty much always nice and smiling until someone pushes me. and then ill be a bitch back. i work for tips so i can pretty much make or break myself. ive had people hate me at first and then end up giving me a huge tip later. but im never rude first i only retaliate

Heres what you should do.... go back to Meijer's, get 2 carts full of the biggest cat food bags you can find, and start slamming them onto to self checkout counter. Then when the shit doesnt work, just throw all the shit on the floor, and walk out. Then she will sit there pissed off at you guys, hating life and making minimum wage. Thats the ultimate payback.


Here though, I get the same shit. GUHH, at Burger King.... I pull up to the drive thru window, and the window was broke and couldnt open so she was like, "Our window is broke, you have to come inside." So I park, and directly in front of the entrance, one of the workers has her corrolla parked in the fire lane, shining her 18 inch chrome rims. I'm like wtf... then I go inside and see a chick on her cell phone, pretending to wash the tables. Nobody's at the counter. I go stand at the counter and stare at her, and she puts up her finger like, "wait a second". I'm apalled at this point. And the other bitch is still shining her rims. So I stand there for like 30 seconds, as the chick on her phone puts a try on the garbage can, and pretends to wash it by rubbing a rag on it in the same spot in a circular motion. Then some other guy I hadnt seen yet, hops up from a table where he was eating his burger and fries, then comes over to help me. He asks me what I want, and I tell him. He goes, oh..... "lashonda (that wasnt her name I just dont remember it) this guy needs a whopper jr meal. Then he walks back to his table and starts to eat again. Finally the chick on the phone comes over, takes my order, (still TALKING on the phone) and my food was up in like 15 seconds. And they always ask me what sauce I want in the drive through, then they never put it in my bag, and they give me something wrong 3 out of 5 times. So I know exactly how you feel about shitty ass employees. Just because you are working minimum wage doesn't mean the 6.25/hr is supposed to be given to you for nothing. You're still supposed to do your job right. All the fast food places in south florida are like that.

im an employee who acts like an asshole to customers, but only when they act like an asshole to me, i wont put up with any shit from a customer just because they are the customer......good thing i dont make minimum wage

Yeah that's definately screwed up. I always do my best to be friendly and helpful to customers. However, some people are of the mindset that because they are customers you are their servants and they can talk to you any way they please. This does not sit well with me and I have told quite a few customers what I think about it before. Just a few days ago, on Saturday, when hurricane dennis was headed right for us (gulf shores,AL) on Sunday, this lady comes past me and, seeing that the fresh meat case is TOTALLY EMPTY, she asks me "is there any more meat?". I respond politely "No ma'am, we had to remove all of it from the sales floor". Then she says in a very rude/haughty tone "You mean there's no way I can get some meat?" So I said extremely sarcastically "No ma'am, there's going to be a hurricane tomorrow in case you haven't heard". This kid that works for me was standing beside me at the time, his jaw was rather low after that. /Long story

if it's deserved, be an asshole. thats fine. it's when people act like jerks because they think they can or they're entitled to it that i believe it's wrong.
