Revs & Speed

Hi, I am the new and proud owner of an MX3, the V6. Am curious about the revs and the speed. My old car (a rover with a 1.6 Honda engine) did 70mph at 3500 rpm, 80mph at 4000rpm etc. and went to the red line at 7000rpm. In the MX3 though, to cruise at 70 the dial tells me its doing 4000rpm. (Leaving only 2500rpm to the red line). Is this normal? The dials have been changed so am wondering if they are reading correctly.
Thanks for your help.
Sam

The redline on the MX3 is actually 7000rpm and yes it is normal to be running at 4000rpm at 70mph with the stock MX3 tranny.

The MX6 tranny offers a longer final drive ratio so this means lower revving at speed by about 400 RPM or so.
