My 1994 Golf III starts to choke in hot weather, esp after long idle time. By choke, i mean that the engine sputters, like it does not get enough air. I recharged the air filter, but no fix. Does anyone have that kind of problem? Any idea on fixes?

Try cleaning out your intake and throttle body with a good intake cleaner... it should help.

Thanks for the tip, veedub. the cleaning helped a bit, the engine ran cleaner, but still sputtered here and there. i took the car for a tuneup, having teh cap & rotor, fuel filter, and spark plugs replaced. it turns out that the cap & rotor were pretty worn, and were not firing right.
