WIP: Revell Ferrari Enzo "Giallo Modena"

Started this a while ago, I happened to pull it out of the box last night, and I got the itch!!! I painted it about 6 months ago using Cobra Colors "Giallo Modena" followed by 3 coats of urethane clear and polishing. I stripped the wheels, and painted them with Tamiya Gloss Aluminum and added some valve stems made from craft wire. I completed the window frames with semi gloss black in the first pic. I think the stance in the mockup is a bit low but very aggressive. In the other pic is the rear hatch glass. I decided to follow a very good article of this model car written and built by Hiroaki Fukuda. It is a great write up and he did a nice "mod" on the rear glass that I decided to use. I drilled 4 holes in each corner and added brass rod to mount the glass. The real car is done this way so I thought it would be a nice touch. The side pods on the glass that revell intends on you leaving clear were removed in place for mesh.

Below is the entire floor pan painted, detailed with CF, followed by hand painted rivet detail and a few coats of Future for a nice sheen. I also used a few of Alex's fine pics in his yellow Enzo tutorial on his site for the rivet placement. I am trying to accomplish something with this build. Make it "look" as good as the Tamiya kit at a fraction of the cost.... so far so good?

Looks great so far. I like the rear winshield, and everything else looks really great too. Love the undertray detailing you are doing.

How did you polish the Urethane?
After 5 years of using it, I have not been able to polish it, although I get a great finish off the gun anyway.

great work!!
What did you use and how did you cut out the side pods of the window??
Most people are afraid that the window would snap, but if you manage to do it like you it gives so much more detail to the car.

To polish urethane, I use 2000 grit sandpaper lots of water to wetsand, and I use 3M "Perfect it III" polishing compound followed by meguiars Scratch X polish.

To cut out the side pods, I use a dremel cut off wheel to get the bulk of it out followed by needle files and sanding sticks to finish it off.....

Thanks guys

Thanks folks.... more progress

I assembled the engine, painted it with Alclad Aluminum, gave it a light wash, and painted the cam covers Italian red and dullcoated them a bit. I also added CF to the center covers. The Tamiya metal transfers would have looked better for the scripts but hey... you cant have everything. I also picked out all the bolts with brass enamel.

http://images10.fotki.com/v196/photos/3/335511/1281531/DSCF0749-vi.jpg

I also got the headers and exhaust installed. I am detail painting the revell kit based off of the tamiya kit I already built (I saved the instructions from the Tamiya kit!!) I painted the headers and exhaust tamiya silver leaf, then airbrushed hear stains using Alclad pale burnt metal and Jet exhaust. I also added BMF to the converters. Then it recieved a light wash in the header crack to look like separate pipes. Also note, I applied Cigarette foil to the floor for the heat shielding the car has. I will also add this foil to the firewall area when I get to it.

here is a pic with the body on and bonnett in place... the red cam covers have a nice contrast against the yellow paint I think.

Below I also have the windshield installed. I also included a few "profile Pics" of the car.... Enjoy!!

I found this post while searching for Enzos, what has happened to the builder? I've got several questions to ask!! What type of cigs did you use to get the foil? What did you use to mask the rear glass for painting? Has this car been finished? Thanks

Robert

Use to be Marlboro had the correct foil but, they started printing their foil liners with Marlboro logo's all over 'em . . . :disappoin

Oh and to comment on the model! AWESOME WORK! Don't ya just love the way these urethane clears lay down??? I'll never paint another model with crappy old hobby paint again!

Since I am on a street car roll, I decided to get back on my Revell Enzo. I am really trying to build this thing as clean as possible proving that with exception to the doors opening, this kit is every bit as good as the Tamiya kit.

The Engine with exception to the plenum which needs to be Carbon fiber decal and clear is done. I added the oil lines coming fron the shock resovoirs to the shocks and alot of cig foil for the heat shields. Other than that its alot of paint detail but the rest is in kit form.

http://images15.fotki.com/v262/photos/3/335511/1281531/DSCF1868-vi.jpg

The interior is coming alon g as well, the seats were painted with the same Cobra colors Giallo Modena yellow minus the clear for a perfect match. The dash and other key areas like the center console were covered in CF and cleared. I am not going nuts on the interior lower panels because the CF will not be seen since the doors are fixed closed. But the dash will be purely visible which is why I concentrated on it.

http://images16.fotki.com/v276/photos/3/335511/1281531/DSCF1872-vi.jpg

And again, I will show you some ,ock up pics cause I cannot believe how well Revell got the proportions right on this car in my opinion, its every bit as good as Tamiya overall... Sire the casting is not as crisp. But with a clean build style attitude and execution, this thing looks like a quality kit.

You've put a lot of effort in there - good job!
The colour is outstanding!
The paint seems a bit thick in a couple of places (eg nose), or is that just a trick of the light?
With the panel lines done it will look even better I think. Did you scribe them out before painting? I just did this for the first tiem on a build and I am impressed with the difference it makes! I won't even need to run any paint in them.

The paint is a little on the thick side there, I glued the front nose on before I painted the body, and I believe the clear filled that in. I painted this thing about 6 months ago and have learned to scribe on all my cars as well. I am not sure if I will puit a wash in the panels or not at this stage...

thanks!!
