01 alero passcode issue

Recently I have been having problems with my 01 alero not starting. I read some other threads about turning the key in the on position for 10 mins and the off for 10 secs and doing that 3 times in a row and resetting the computer, and this has worked, But I have had to do this 3 times in the past week. Is there something that causes the passcode issue. I have noticed the security light blinking everytime there is an issue. PLEASE HELP... Thank you...

The ignition lock cylinder is bad...I think they run abut $250-$300 at the stealerships.

Thanks I will check into that. I haven't had any problems since friday with it not being able to start but the security light is on all the time now. I guess its just time til i have problems again.
