ok, this guy has a 2nd gen 7 its an 87 turboII badass lil car. he's sellin it to me for 1500.00 i was wondering if it is worth it, heres the problem. as soon as he started it, it started smokin, like bad. then after it ran for about ooo 30seconds to a min, the smoke died down and was barely visable. no funny sounds from engine bay or nuthin, engine sounds great,he said it also runs hot.. any suggestions? and should i buy, i know its a rare car espeacially here in ohio..thanks.

the smoke at at startup is normal if its a turbo car.
do the cooling mods (water pump, radiator, coolant flush, fix the clutch fan). 1500 for a tII is cheap, hows the body and mileage

I'd inquire as to the overheating problem. I've hear that if a rotary engine has ever overheated, it's doomed...

you can overheat once or twice...

i say get it, and if its a blown coolant seal, use some CRC block weld untill you save up for a rebuilt engine. CRC block weld held up good on my old engine. untill i changed the water pump and forgot to install 2 washers, and i killed the engine, but now i got another engine with less that 20K miles.

smoke is not normal for a turbo... my apex seals went and it never smoked even then... I don't know why someone would think smoke was normal from a turbo

lol...then why do you say it's ok for them to over heat once or twice? if the engine overheats once or twice its okay, but i know that heat is bad for a rotary engine because my stock engine had been overheating since maybe february and i never bothered to fix it, and it just started to run on one rotor maybe a week ago. and i drove it hard as shit too. im acutally surprised it held up that well.

Get it. and do a tune up.

i made an assumption 1)the car is still stock;it has the OMP still installed and 2) it had been sitting for a while. there should be a little smoking out the tailpipe since there is a bunch of oil injected right at startup. sometimes there is a little oil left over in the turbo after it is shut off, that can cause smoke too. when i first got my car, it had been sitting and it smoked for a good 40 seconds then it went away.
just make sure the smoke is blue and not white.
