I was on a State Rt. where i live in Ohio, and a Ford Probe GT pulled up next to me at a light. It was probly a 95. The guy was driving and his girl was in the passenger seat. He looked at me and when the light turned green we were racing. I got my ass wooped. The problem is that I just got my car about 2 months ago, and Ive just learned how to drive a manual. I have no idea if i should have won that race or not, but i got beat so bad it makes me wanna cry. Does anyone have any idea where or how i can learn how to drive this thing?

your driver skill still wouldn't matter your driving a piss slow HX.
maybe you could brush up on launching but swap your motor too

Probe GT = mid 15's.
Civic HX = mid 18's.

Go buy a B18c5 and tranny, drop it in, pull the plastics, crossmember, and backseats. You will OWN the Probe GT(and a lot of other shit too)
Keep the rims, they rock.

let me tell you something i drive a 97 honda civic hx and it is not slow at all just the other day i was racing with the new model 01-04 civic ex and i jumped over it. my civic hx and i belive other hx civic's do 110 with the 3 rd gear and 130 with the 4 th.

you have long gearing because the car was set-up to be a "fuel-efficient" vehicle. therefore, lower RPM and you can drive in 5th gear on the freeway w/ your RPM under 3k in the optimum range for fuel-saving. it has nothing to do with speed for your car.
think of it this way...Integra Type R: close gear ratio, Civic HX: long gear ratios...
hope this helps you some

SO IMAGINE PUTTING A SI ENGINE BUT KEEP THE STOCK TRANSMISSION. WOULDNT IT BE FASTER THEN THE REGULAR SI.
AND I ALSO READ SOMEWHERE THAT WHEN YOU PUT A TURBO IN A HX YOU GET MORE TORQE THEN HORSEPOWER.
AND ALSO THE CIVIC HX IS V-TEC (V-TEC E)

No, it wouldn't be faster than a regular Si. The HX transmission will still slow you down acceleration wise. And it depends on which Si you're talking about. If you're talking about the '99-'00 Si, then the tranny won't even bolt up. If you're talking about a '92-'95 Si, then it's still not much of a hp increase (like 10hp). And yes the HX is a vtec engine, but it's not the performance kind. It's made for fuel economy with a little added performance in the higher rpms. Turboing an HX would be a bad idea. Not that any of the other D-series engines are built to produce a lot of power, but turboing an economy engine completely defeats the purpose of the engine in the first place. The HX is one of Honda's bastard children. And whether you'll get more tq than hp (or the opposite) will depend o nthe turbo you use. The smaller the turbo, the more likely you'll get more tq than hp.

One question to you. how come when i was racing with the 01-04 civic ex i took him realy nice? doesnt the ex has more hp them my hx? and i know for sure that he was trying badly and still couldnt keep up with me.
PS: I am not trying to say that the civic hx is a performance engine, it just suprises me how people write that the hx is a slow POS. And one more thing. i used to owe a 94 mazda 626 2.0 16 v DOHC and the civic hx is a bit faster.

Well the EX only has 12hp and 10tq on the HX, but it also weighs around 200+lbs more. So the 200lb advantage that the HX is all it needs to beat the car with only 12 extra hp.
And Civic HX's are slow as hell. All Civics are slow as hell (maybe with the exception of the new Si). Civic's are economy cars, they're not ment to be fast. They're only popular because the older ones are pretty light and it's fairly easy to do swaps and/or forced induction and make them quick.

Are you stupid? A stock civic is a slow POS. I drive one. There is nothing fast about them. WHo cares if you can hit 110 in 3rd (which, btw, you can't) if it takes you 10 minutes to get there.

It might not be relevant to the original poster. But when I had 1995 accord EX it was hitting 105MPH in 3rd gear, but in fourth acceleration was non-existant. It took it about 1 minute to get to 120 MPH.

OMFG what a dumbass please know what your talking about before you say anything...those extremely long gears is what makes you get that speed in a low gear but realize how LONG it takes to get there...a stock HX is a slow POS and dont deny it...and who cares sohc vtec is something completely different than dohc vtec...and wow if you put turbo you get more torque than hp...who cares if your car makes a shitload of torque and barely has any hp you still wont go anywhere...and no a stock si will own a stock hx any day...mating a hx transmission with a si motor will only make it slower...its not how fast you can go in a gear its all about how long it takes to get to a certain speed

YES! damn, i hate all these kids these days, "yeah, that cars fast, it registers 130"????? wtf??? isnt the world record on a bicycle like 80mph? fuck, that bicycle is fn quick! NO, he had to have a car push him to start and pedal like a bitch for 10 min! its slow! a hx IS slow, YES it can have a HIGHER TOP SPEED! the gears are longer! but if it takes you 10 min. to get there who the f cares? all street racing is is pretty much 0-80...0-100 yeah, if we race for 10 min on a 50 mile strait road, you may own a si after about 15 min of trying... but the si will eat your ass untill it tops out... oh, and the ecu wont let you go past 120 anyway, so it dont matter
and if you raced an automatic civic, then the automatic civics are like the slowest things on earth! an automatic transmission takes 30% of the power instantly, before it goes anywhere! so, say you have 110 hp, you really only have 77!!! thats alot to brag about, its like braggin about beating a d15b7 auto, or a damn automatic geo metro 3cyl!
sorry.... tired if the "my cars fast" thing.... i have a 95 ex, d16z5 125hp 111tq... 5spd, it runs a 1/4 mile time of 16.3@83mph.... STOCK SLOW!! thats why a h22 is gonna replace the 1.6 in 6 months... then my civic will be "faster" than SOME other civics... but still slow!
