Hi I recently when into a muffler place to get some flowmasters on my 97 thunderbird and I went their and he said It would be smart to get rid of the catalyic converters so I can get the sound that I want. I did that and they sound GREAT! now I was wondering will it ruin my car in any way?

As far as I know, it won't even affect your car. I've had to remove the CC off of several of my vehicles for one reason or another. The only thing you might notice is your tailpipe being discolored on the inside, or if your car isn't tuned properly, an odd odor in the exhaust. Other than that, you're good to go, providing the laws in your state don't demand a CC.

Your check engine light could come on due to the O2 sensors.

My cats are really clogged and my check engine light is always on. I live in CT and i just took my car to emissions and it passed. Even though it was burning oil durring the beginning of the test. I'm going to get rid of my cats so i dont have so much back presure in my exhaust. I was told by the guy that i have work on my car that as long as u have a little back presure your car will run fine.

when I was getting a system put on my car the guy told me to take it out for a test drive after he chopped off the system from the collector/3rd cat back. It ran like crap! Im assuming that the lack of back pressure (eventhough it was quite slight) caused the car to run improperly b/c the computer is set up for the engine to have a certain amount of pressure. And if you're gonna get a complete cat-back system go with one with only one muffler. there is no need for two. All it does is add weight. A single muffler into 2 tips would be fine but stick with one muffler. Mine comes off the collector into 3" and runs all the way back to a single magnaflow muffler located in the stock possition on the driver's side. It runs and looks great.
