small engine = heat up faster?

I dont know much ab out engine or cars at all when it comes to fixing it up with engine mods and such....but i was wondering about my brother saying because the del sol's engine is small, it would heat up faster and not last as long as a his honda accord 02; is this true?

another question is (because I dont want to start a new thread) I'm planning to get a Si, I know del sol are decent gas savers, but if intake (i'm guessing it makes the car go faster) will the fuel efficiency of the car decrease?

Yes, the size affects the warm-up time. A smaller engine will warm up faster. If he is saying a smaller engine generates more heat then a larger engine he's wrong. Also, that will not afftect engine life. Engine life is affected by conditions its drivin it, how hard you drive it and how well you maintain it.

An intake will acually give you better fuel economy. But when you start driving it harder, which will be more tempting, it will comsume fuel slightly faster becuase more air means the engine delivers more fuel. If you keep it below 3000 rpm expect better gas milage. Dont know any exact numbers tho.

well, i dont plan to drive that fast with the del sol only around 85 max, but i'm a nut for gas savers...could you suggest some brand of intake that will work well for the 95 del sol si?

I have an AEM short-ram intake. I love it. Its a high quality piece from a reputable company and i got it for 60$ new. Do a search in the 92-95 forum about intake differences(short-ram and cold air) you'll find alot of good info.

Do a search and you'll find alot of details. In short, cold air is a longer pipe that locates the filter behind the bumper to suck colder air. Ram air's locate the filter inside the engine bay. Cold air intakes can suck up water though, because of the filter location. This will damage the engine. Ram air have shorter tube meaning less resistance for the air to move through, although the air comming in is slightly warmer. I prefer and recomend ram air.

I was at the dealer to day looking at a 95 Del Sol. I'm not much of a car person because I've recently started to drive. But as I gas the car or accelerate and let go of the acceleration, the engine shakes. Is this normal? Another thing was...as I test drove the car, I can see oil leaking onto the ground...I know this isn't normal (maybe change the oil?), as I open the hood of the car...I can see oil leaking from a nut of an engine partbut I was wondering if this could be engine damage or the engine is old?

I've read your signature, is this really true about the oil leak or are you just making people awe the horse power of the Del Sol?

Ok, got your PM, but i'll answer this here for anyone who reads it. The quote is a joke. A car should never be leaking oil. Also desbribe the shaking more in detail.

When I gas the car, the engine shakes for a second or two then becomes normal again. This always happens not just once in a while. Also could you explain your joke in more detailed? The car was sweating because I noticed it dripping water...but why does this happen?

Ok, the whole point behind the joke is a used car salesman is trying to explain a puddle of oil under a used car hes trying to sell and he says its sweat from all the horusepower. An engine doesn't sweat. Water may drip from the a/c. Oil should never drip.

Shit, missed that typo. I meant hesitates. As in when you hit the gas it doesnt want to go for a second.

Well the car itself, is slow its an Si because i'm used to a v6; so it takes me a while from holding onto the gas inorder for it to accelerate but other than that; the car does not hesitate. what i'm asking is when i pop the hood...there's a switch to spin which means the motor rev (just like gasing a car on park). after i let go of the switch the motor shakes for about a second or so. is this normal for a small car to do that?

Could be a tourque mount (engine mount) they do go bad occasionally and they arnt that expensive for find and have replaced as far as probloms go. That would be my first place to start anyways. You also need to find out where the oil is leaking from for this could be a simple solution or several hundred dollars in the shop later problom, especialy since you have no in depth wutomotive knowledge...Honestly, I say find another Sol and forget about this one!!!
