1989 F350 Ignition

Have a 1989 F350 4x4 with 5.8. Son was on a road trip when it started loosing power then died all together. First thing that stood out was wire to the coil was fried. Replaced that and was able to get engine to run on what sounded like 6 cylinders then it would shut off. Further checking found fuel pumps not working. More checking found nothing turning on when when ignition switch set to RUN. When switch turned part way to start then lights and guages would activate and solinoids would click. The engine would still not run.

Would I be correct to assume that the ignition switch is bad, or should I keep checking? I have a Hayne's book which is a help but some of the wire colors do not match which makes this that much tougher to solve.

By the way, where are the "fusable links" located? I can't seem to find a single one.

As I recall, the Fused Links are on the radiator support to the driver's side of the radiator above the headlight. I think.

Yes, the ignition switches on these vehicles are a known problem. In fact, there is (was) a Federal recall on them, so you may be in luck with the cost being re-imbursed by FMC.

ModMech, thanks for the info. I'll definately checkout the recall thing.
