auto or 5spd

I'm currently looking for a 95-96 maxima, all i seem to be able to find in good shape are autos. i would like one with 5spd, black leather, sunroof, etc. do they even make a 5spd with black leather? i have yet to seen one. before i started looking, i was devoted to 5spd's, my past cars (honda accord and nissan 240sx) were both manuals. what do you guys think? do ya think i should keep looking for a 5spd with black leather, or is it hopeless to find the kind i want and settle for an auto with the blk leather. i've been looking for about a month, and would really like to get one within the next two weeks. What do ya think about racing with an auto? All input would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure you could get a 5 speed and leather. I'd say it would be rather difficult to find one, as I rarely see 5 speed Maximas at all. But keep looking, it'll be worth it.

As for performance with the automatic transmission... well, I don't recommend drag racing it, but then again, I don't recommend drag racing a Maxima period. Whenever you feel it neccesary to dust a Honda, the Max will do it, even with the auto. I remember, back when my Pulsar was still in its glory days, helping my friend put his '97 SE through its paces. The torque converter gave him a pretty decent start off the line, and for a "family car," he did pretty well between traffic lights. When we took it to highway battle, however, I got a leg up. I don't remember when he gave up, but we were over 100 MPH for sure. I initiated the contest, and he was pissed off because even my car seemed to be gloating. I had the T-tops off. :smoker2:

Find a 5 speed. If you enjoyed driving the manual 240, you're going to like the manual Maxima.

I have a 95 max and it's aoto and i love it fast evein if you don't find a 5 speed go with the aoto you'll love. :smoka:

I have a 96 se 5speed w/ black leather. If you want a five speed look for se's or gxe's only. You would be hard pressed to find a gxe w/ leather though. The gle's were auto only. So if you want the 5-speed w/ black leather look into se's. You may have to spend more time to find what you want, but it will pay-off. If you get the auto you will just regret it down the road.

True that, currently trying to fund a 5spd swap right now... :D

Its out there somewhere waiting for you. I have a 96 auto and everytime I get in it I'm hoping to put my foot down on a clutch. I want a manual damnit. keep looking and when you find it post your good fortune. I will be green with envy. maximas are truely great cars. and hella fun especailly with a 5 speed.

You want one, I have a 90 GXE with an auto. And since day one I wished it was a 5 speed. So I finally got one, 95 SE w/o leather. Honestly I don't think the leather in our cars are that nice, you can spend some money and get custom leather that is much nicer. Only about 30% of the 4th gens were 5 speeds so you have to look, but they are out there, you won't be disapointed.;)

Maxima.org has quite a few guys on there with 5-Spds that are trying to sell. Just browse around through their classifieds.

Look in autotrader.com. I found about 60 Maxima's 95-99 in my area but only about 8 5-speeds, and I would probably say most of those were the base GXE's. I really can't prove this because the first one I test drove was a 97' SE Maroon 5-sp w/black leather interior w/30k miles @ $14K. I figured it probably didn't get any better so I bought it. I would also say, if you do find an SE 5-sp, it will probably come with leather...
