Mark VII = Alternator Eater

I've had a 1990 Lincoln Mark VII (bill blass) since 2000. Since then, I've replaced 7 alternators (ie; this is the 8th alternator since I bought the car). In addition, it's sat for a year and a half because I got sick of swapping alts. :disappoin
Any typical causes for this? Anyone else have this problem with their Marks? If there's a common problem with a ground that can be isolated, that would be ideal. at least then I have a start on tearin it apart and fixin it.
Thanks, Guys!

just a maybe here, check your main ignition/charging for a good connection, even engine to frame, i put in an extra braided ground strap eng/frame system's ground wires. something is preventing the alternator from stop charging, so the voltage regulator in it is telling alt to charge. open hood with car running at night, andlook for any sparking , arcing, good luck
