A question concering illegal imports

I have a good quetion about this and want to know what you think or know about it. As you know it is stupid to illegally import a vehicle and then reigster it for street use. But yet alot of jackasses get a way with it. How? There are alot of poeple driving around in illegally imported Civics, Skylines, Silvia S15s, Evos and Land Rovers imported from the U.K. The NHTSA and customs have laws that virtually eliminate any method of illegal importation. So how the hell are they doing it and then registering them for road use? Heres my question. What if you import a car illegaly and dont drive it on the streets or register it for road use and only mod it and race it at the drag strips. And then when the car is 25 years old and exempt from all laws register it for street use. Is that a good plan. Would it be stupid to illegally import a car if you only plan to use it for track use only?

Im sure there are different laws concerning "non streetable cars" ie a race car.

Yeah but a street car cannot be permantly imported as a race car. They can only be imported temporarily. But a purposely built race car like a F1 car can permantly be imported. What Im trying to say is that if you want to permantly import a car and you plan to do it illegally then why not only run it at the tracks and then register it for road use when it is 25 years old. The law cant tuoch you and it would be a way to obtain the car you want while its in good shape instead of waiting to import it 25yrs old with a lot of damage. The older it gets the harder it becomes to find a nice one. What can the government do if you have a illegal car or motorcycle sitting in your yard and its not being driven on the streets. It does not change the fact that it is illegal and you may or may not get into trouble. What will they do if its just in your yard and not registered. They want know unless you drive it on the streets and get caught. What Im trying to say dont drive on the road or try to register it. Dont risk it. If you want to drive it run it at the drag strips and have fun with it there. Then when the car is 25 and exempt register it. Then it is legal.

Some people pay through the backdoor to get what they want aka illegally.

Yeah. And its all about knowing people. They do good as far as getting the car goes. But where they fuck up is when the drive it and race it on the streets. If they would stay confined to the tracks they would not get there cars taken. If the car is not registered or being driven on the streets have you done anything wrong. Aside from sneaking it in under your shirt.

R34's in Japan can be obtained for as little as $30,000 USD. That is a heck of a deal if you're looking for one, but once you send it here, the chances of getting it into California, for example, are slim. They are going to want a reason and paperwork as to why you are trying to import said vehicle. Chances are they won't allow it, but if you are looking into bringing in a drag car, find one that is already considered a race car, like the N1...Just like the owners of this forum have.

Igor had RB Motoring import that car for Race/Show only supdawg79...

I'm waiting it out until 2010 anyway... The more money you have, the nicer car you'll obtain. And since I'm shooting for 1989 BNR32... I better have some money to dish out, just to get one in decent condition.

I remember Sean showing me pictures he had of it when they first got it. Glad to see the car will be put to 'real' use when it begins competing.
