96 dodge caravan

hi, im new to this but could use some help. i,ll be driving my van around and i,ll stop at a stop sign, when i try to take off it just wants to sit there.when i give it gas for a while it will take off. even when i first take off from my house. any help is appreciated. i forgot to mention the van stays running.it doesnt die on me.just seems like the gas pedal dont want to work.
