Yet another Transmission question!

Hello all,

Have been reading some of the posts and havent seen anyone post with the same problem I am having with my 97 SLT.

Got the usual codes and problems that go along with having a bad ignition switch. So I replaced that. But I am still getting a strange noise from the front of the car now. Best way to describe it is that it sounds like a power steering pump groaning noise, but its coming from the transmission tunnel area. It starts about 30MPH and as you decel it slowy dies, kinda like the whistle that you make when you dropped a bomb on your buddies GI Joes when you were a kid. This noise started the day the SES light came on. I replaced the switch and now the noise is back after a couple of days of driving.. The noise is not constant, you can drive it for a couple of days and its not there, and then its back for a day or 2 then gone again. I checked the fluid level and it read high. I sucked some fluid out of it and added some of BGs trans conditioner, checked the level and it was OK. Check it again (cold this time) and its still high on the dipstick.

Maybe I should take it in and get the trans flushed and the filter replaced? SES light has not come back on.

Thanks for any help!

Spoke to the GMC dealer and they say it is most likely a front wheel bearing and hub, and that its pretty coomon for them to go out and make this type of noise.

Anyone have any ideas?

Ever greased your front end zirc fittings? For a 97, it's about time ...

so cheap, it's worth a shot ...

' ... kinda like the whistle that you make when you dropped a bomb on your buddies GI Joes when you were a kid. " -- NICE !!
