Hello,

I sure am glad I found you guys! I just bought a 90 cavy with a 2.2l auto. The car has 215,000 km on it. It's driveable, starts great, shifts perfectly. Problem is, if I accelerate too hard, The car wants to stall. Otherwise, it's fine. It has stalled about three times on me while trying to pull away from a dead stop, but I can restart it right away. It will sputter if I have the pedal down just a bit too far. It seems to do this only when it is under a load. It will slightly sputter if I'm in park and I gun the accelerator, but it does recover. If I'm pulling away from a dead stop, I have to be careful not to accelerate too hard, or it will die. Once I'm driving, and I press too hard on the pedal, I can hear pinging under the hood, and it starts to sputter again. This is particularly noticable when in third gear trying to get over 80 kph (probably due to the load on the motor). If I let off the gas, the problem stops. I have changed the fuel filter, pcv valve and air filter. I am currently running some injector/carb cleaner through the gas tank at a high concentration, but so far, it has made little difference. I would really appreciate your help with this.

try the idle air contol module. its on top of the intake. should be 2 torque screws and one electric plug to remove it.

I found the problem. The spark plugs were so worn that the contacts were almost non existent. Fixed, and all better. Thanks for the help.
