I have replaced the blower motor resistor on my 02 Alero. None of the fan speeds worked prior to installing the new resistor and none of the fan speeds work after it was installed. Can anyone give me any pointers on what would be the next step in troubleshooting?
Thanks

Just wanted to add a note. I have verified that the 30amp fuse (position #53) under the hood for the HI BLO MOT is fine.
Any help is appreciated.

Normally, the symptom for a defective blower motor resistor is it will only work in the highest speed position so that may not have been your problem in the first place. Have you checked to see if the blower is any good? Could be a problem with the HVAC head unit or switch. Or in a worse case scenario a defective contact in the ignition switch assembly.

I'm not sure if this issue is the same on all 'N' body vehicles, but the head unit on the HVAC system in my malibu was bad. Essentially, all of the controls are in the same place, but the knobs and buttons look a little bit different...maybe that's your issue...?

Make look a little different but its the same as far as operation for the Malibu, Grand Am and Alero. If he had a GM service manual it could be a DIY repair job. Its pretty good in that respect.
