1990 ZR1 Hot Starting Problem!

Please help. I have a 90 ZR1 with 27000 miles. Problem - The car starts fine when cold, and runs fine, however when the engineer reaches operating temp after a few minutes, and is shut off, it will not restart. I have full instruments lights, and a new battery, but not even a click. Once it cools down, after about an hour it will start as if everything is fine. A dealership suggested it was the fuel injectors leaking fuel into the fuel rail(?) and the injectors need to be replaced. To me it feels more of an electrical issue. Please help.

it definatly sounds like a sensor problem of some sort, or perhaps a starter issue, do you have headers on the car?

No headers. I was told it may be a fuel sensor. Going to have it check out. Thanks for the reply.

I think it could be the solenoid on the starter, that happened to me once, u might wanna try the wrap thing or a shield that they sell, to keep the heat away from the starter.

thats what i was thinking when i asked about the headers, but he dosnt have them, and factory manifolds shouldnt create the heated starter situation like headers do.

One thing it isn't is a fuel sensor. Sensors don't stop a starter from turning.

It sounds like a starter problem, and with the age of the vehicle, I'd guess it's the original starter has malfunctioned due to long periods of not being used (low mileage on a 15 yr old car)

Thanks for the reply, I'll take the starter in and have it tested.

Have you tought about getting one of those "high torque" starters, or mini starters? They are way lighter than the stock ones. They are built to handle up to 18 to 1 compression. Good luck!!! :)

I have the same problem with my 1994 ZR1. Did you ever figure out what the issue was with yours. I thought it might have something to do with the theft deterrent system, but am not sure.
