Hope all the londoners are ok.
Its a complete state of chaos in the central city.
Iv heard from someone on another forum that its bussiness as usualy, from someone who said they have been asked to just stay at work, and from my brother who was just annoyed he had to walk to work as the tube was shut down. He knows less about whats was going on than I do.

Heinous. I heard on the radio they're attributing the attack to terrorists. I started a thread in Current Affairs about it; I'll close that one and post a link here.

The blasts are linked to Al Quada, I heard that there is a website the news is watching, that is stating these lames did it. AQnd, somehow, I really think these xcowards [trying very hard to be calm] are trying to disrupt the G8 summit.
After all, what better way for these sickos to disrupt an effort to actually try to help, rather than kill other people.

Well I sure do have confidence in my administration now. How long has the war been "over"? And how long have we still been fighting? And how easy was it for the bad guys to blow a hole in one of the largest cities in the world? Again...
Hope everyone in London is ok.

What a horrible day. I'm glad to say i'm fine, as are my family and friends. The nearest blast was a mile from my workplace and about two miles from home. They did it at 9 in the morning, the sons of bitches. Rush hour.
It's business as usual on the stock market but boy what a shitty day. My head hurts. A lot. Here i am bothered with how much money i'm losing for my company and myself, when there are people who have lost their lives... I don't really know what to make of that. I haven't been outside yet or seen much footage so it hasn't really hit me yet. Looks quiet out there.

i was terrified when i woke up this morning and heard about this on the news. first, my girl just got back in the states yesterday after a 19 hour layover in London. she was tellin me how she was riding the subways and everything, she cut it way too close. Secondly, one of my friends that i have known since 2nd grade has a lot of family that live over there. Sadly, he hasn't heard from one of them yet, hope everything is alright. Too bad people don't learn that if you F with someone like London, you're gonna get F'ed a gazillion times harder.

I can just imagine the kind of backups this will cause for the tube in the next month or so. Best of luck on getting the city back up and running normal.

Now as for this comment quoted above, if its true what they say that its an Al Quada operation, then I doubt its because of the G8 summit. History has shown that Al Quada plans these things way in advance (like years).
Regardless if the reason is becasue of the G8 summit, the question that stays in my mind is this. Being that the world leaders are in Scotland and London is already in a heighten state of awareness with security all over the place, how is it that this still happened. I thought after 9/11 both Britain and the US as well as a few more countries looked into their security measures and updating them and yet neither the CIA/FBI nor Scotland Yard got a whif of anything being planned or happening.
Go figure. So much for homeland security.

I hope that every one is ok on this very sad day.
Unfortunally not unless we start putting security every where like they have in airports then the chances of incidences like this happening is going to be very hard to stop.
Could you imagine scaning all passengers and their bags to get onto a train or a bus, it's just wouldn't be possible.
People like this are always going to be hard to stop.
How many of you have traveled on a train and seen someone leave a shopping bag behind or a parcel accidently it probably happens hundreds of times a day in every train station around the world, now how many of you would of thought to them selves "hang on that could be a bomb" maybe i should move.
lets all hope this never happens again.

So much for anything and everything Bush has ever said about the war on terror being remotely successful. This just proves that after all the lives lost, all the soldiers displaced to Iraq, all the speeches, all the lies, all the bajillion dollars spent on this tangent, the terrorists are still fully capable of chunking out a lifeline in one of the largest cities in the world.
I've said it once and I'll say it again, Bush has failed.
And I doubt this will be the last incident either. I'll bet we start seeing more and more of these suicide bombings in major cities around the world. Nothing on the scale of 9/11, but plenty more on the London scale.

BULLSHIT! Bush is not in charge of security in England. Is law enforcement is a failure because crimes are still being committed? Terrorists have been killing people for decades.
All it proves is that there are torrorists left in the world. Either you capitulate to them or you fight them. The only reason its doesn't come to an end is that the people they claim to represent haven't done enough to stop them.

True; you can't attribute the success of a terrorist attack to the failure of another country's leader.
It's a thorny subject, but again we see that the terrorists are Mulsim extremists. Are we moving to a situation similar to what happened in the Crusades, when the western powers tried to quash the eastern Muslims?

Everything so far points to al-Qaeda being responsible for this. Over two years of bombing and fighting in Iraq has not hurt and may have even helped al-Qaeda. Since Bush is the one who relentlessly pressed for launching the Iraq war, I agree he has failed. While it is impossible to prevent every type of attack it sure seems that Bush has us barking up the wrong tree.

Bush didn't fail because this was an attack in another country but failed because al-qaeda is still alive and strong. Instead of focusing on the original 9/11 terrorists Bush had us attack another country which has fueled even more "terrorists". The USA could still be attacked as much as ever before, and our leaders must agree because they keep launching "yellow terror alerts".
The sad thing is that the vast majority of the world knew Iraq was not an immediate threat but Bush was hell bent on stirring that hornets nest no matter what anyone said or did.

Ignoring the Iraq situation (I agree that to chase Al Quaida the US didn't necessarily need to go in there, and that it stirred the pot)...
But getting rid of a bunch of fanatical terrorists is like trying to get rid of crabgrass, or roaches. There is always more somewhere. Read up on Black Jack Pershing, he had the same type of Muslim terrorist problem in the Phillipines early in the 20th century (at least his was one of the most well publicized). So the whole terrorism thing isn't new, and many attempts have been made to stop it. When you have a fanatical bunch of religious zealots that believe blowing themselves (or someone else) up gets them a ticket straight to heaven, then you can't possibly find them all. It only takes a few to convert/brainwash others to gain a following. Couple that with the patience to plan and wait several years, and it's easily seen how they are a continuous threat to peaceful people everywhere.

Good points. The question then is how to best combat it? If you look at a more modern situation like Israel and the Palestinians you can see how poorly their attempt of terrorist elimination is working. We seem to be following the same recipe for disaster.

Agreed. In the first place (and this is unchangeable) Israel should NOT have been carved out of the region after WWII, so we can blame that one on Stalin, Roosevelt, and Churchill. But that's off topic.
Your question reminds me of a situation and the "pull the plug" joke during the Vietnam War. It went something like this: How do you win the war? Take all the good Vietnamese and put them on a ship. Kill everyone left in the country. Then, pull the plug, sink the ship, to be sure.
The situation with terrorists is much the same. There is no way to tell if a Muslim is a terrorist, or not, until they act. The only true way to be sure would be to pull the plug; however this is too heinous a "solution" (smacking of Hitler's "final solution") to even be considered.
So how do you find terrorists before they strike?

This is a barbaric and atrocious act of extreme callous hatred. To take innocent human life in the name of whatever they stand for is just purely nauseating. How any group can continue to conceive such acts is totally un-acceptable; however as a proud Englishman from a nation of commendable emergency service workers, its times like these that not only brings Britain together, but also demonstrates to the sick extremist groups that terrorism will not deter Britain from continuing with life.
Britain has always stood up and fought against terrorism, it’s now basically the primary role of the British armed forces. Fast, mobile and tactical deployment of forces to anywhere within the world, effectively demonstrated during the IRAQ conflict backed by Blair after 9/11, and this is now the basic goal of the UK defense system.
The reasons for this, is that modern warfare, and the fight on terrorism is basically a war, is no longer to amass huge numbers of troops, and to show a line of strength, but to deploy and fight in smaller numbers against an almost invisible target. 9/11 was tragic; a cowardly act of just unconceivable waste of human life, that awake a nation once again to the real threat of far extremist groups, and Britain supported the acts of Bush. Not that I totally agreed with the IRAQ war, but that’s another topic I feel. However now that English soil has been targeted the gloves are now most certainly off. No British government has ever laid down to terrorist threats or demands, and it will be a sad day when that ever happens.
The British security services will do their jobs, and Blair will deploy land troops to show Britain will not lay down to acts as cowardly as this. Sadly, as well trained for terrorist wars as the British armed forces are, and even covert operations of elite forces such as the British SAS, the real fight will never be won. And this is simply - what is brain washing these fools into thinking that they are performing the roles chosen for them, and they will be rewarded in a new life, or whatever pure religious bollocks they have instilled into them?
Until you can eradicate this senseless brainwashing, this religious idiocy they are thinking is right in the name of whatever ideals they believe in, then some of these terrorist groups are simply never going to be disbanded off. Got to agree with fredjacksonsan, it likes trying to kill a weed. Only kill the part you can see, eventually it will grow back, but kill the root, you kill the weed.
Bush and Blair will perhaps invest a lot of time mulling over security documents, where best to place troops to inflict enough damage to afford them media coverage to ensure it looks like the war on terrorism is being progressed and being won, however many terrorist factions are like cockroaches. You kill one off, five more follow the one just been removed, it’s only at first you just don’t see them, until it’s all too late, and this is when you have an infestation problem. As pointed out, this is nothing new but how to tackle the problem is the real challenge that lies ahead of world leaders such as Bush and Blair.

This reminds me of what they talk about in the movie Enemy of the State about guerilla warfare. The same applies to this situation.
The U.S. is big, the terrorist are small.
The U.S. is slow, the terrorist are fast.
The U.S. is exposed, while the terrorist are hidden.
The terrorist use the U.S. weapons and technology against them so while the U.S. grows weaker, they grow stronger.
How do you fight and kill an enemy who has the entire world to hide in, populations to hide in, no central base of operations, not a country based in but an ideal in many small establishments, and won't stop until you're dead?
You have to become a bad guy.
In WW2 were civilians killed in order to "break the enemy's back"? Yes. If you look at other wars things like this were done and worked.
The U.S. could of done one of two things and we know which way it took in Iraq.
1. Go in there and kick some ass, civilians will die but less troups will be dead and more enemy targets will be destroyed. The world will be really pissed at you though.
2. Play the "please the world game" and try to do things right with as little killing or shooting as possible. Try to do war in a "politically correct" way where people aren't as pissed at you. Hey, it didn't work in Vietnam it isn't working here.
