This is sort of like going to the doctor and saying that you don't feel right and then asking for a full diagnosis without any sort of check...(weird example, I know, but I'm tired, so). Just go to the dealer, or Pep Boys, or basically any good garage, and have them run a scan to see what error is causing the light to stay on.

There is a way to pull up the trouble code using the trip odometer. You just can't turn the light out that way. Here;s how:
With key in ignition and ignition off, push and hold the trip reset button. Keep holding it down and crank the car up. Hold it down until "TEST" appears in place of the trip odo, then let it up. This puts instrument cluster in test mode. Push button again, GAGE displays. Push again and Bulb displays. Push again and this will display your DTC codes. Write the code down and post it here or look it up on Google. You can keep pushing the button to scroll through other test areas, such as speed and RPM's, etc. As soon as you turn the key back off everything goes back to normal. Hope this helps!

One more thing. will the light stay on untill some one turns it off, or will it cut off by it self.
My rodeo's cuts of by itself,... The other day i thought i had my foot on break, but was on gas..reved up really high, and the light cut on, but went off like 20 mins later.

After a long trip, it could be an O2 (oxygen) sensor or something related to the emissions system. A trip to the dealer, repair shop, or buying an OBD-II code scanner from an auto parts store for about $50-100 is the only true way to know whats wrong.
