He's asking becasue it says JDM info and engine swaps at the top. :)

But since this is the honda forum, and not many of us know much about Mazda's Ill move this to the mazda forum.

and,
The only engine that I think of that might fit would be the 1.8l DOHC Turbo engine from the old Japanese GTR Fammila, or the small V6 that come out in some versions of the old Famila in Japan.
Of course it would depend whether or not the enige in the new Protoge is from the same family, or if the chassis has anything in common with the old cars.
But then why do you want to do an engine swap on a brand new car?

The JDM FS-ZE will fit without any modifications. It has a stock horsepower rating of 170, 40 more than the U.S. version of the 2.0.
Tripoint Engineering offers an intercooled turbo for this car also. Should put it in the 225 horsepower area with proper tuning. The FS-ZE can be had for about $1800. Just the engine is needed, It will bolt directly to the stock tranny.

actaully, i wanted to find out if a 13b or 13b-rew would fit, and i foudn that would because rotaries r so small, but im having trouble finding anyone that knows of such a swap, or how to go about finding a way to covnert prehaps a fwd to a rwd, or how to fit the tranny, but i dont think a 13b off an fd would be too easy for a 2002 protege, since its and older engine, mebbe the new renisis off the rx-8 would fit, but i dont think anyone knows about that yet either. it would be great tho, 280 NA hp to the rear wheels hiding itself in a mazda protege, the perfection of the sleeper.:licker:
