Raced a maxima SE

I just got a new pt cruiser 2.4 L... so after football practice a guy a know wanted to race, so i agreed to see what the little 2.4L could do. We pulled out of the parking lot and went down the road a little bit, we turned around and lined up. I gave a 3..2..1 and we where off, i got the jump on him but he soon gained a little bit of it back, we had to let off because of oncoming traffic. (2nd race), we once again lined up and started rolling, i gave a 3..2..1 and we were off, i once again got the jump on him but he gained it back and pulled about 3/4's of a car length ahead. At the end i lost by about 3/4's of a car length, not bad for the little PT.

What kind of car was he driving?

the race was against a Chrysler PT Cruiser and a Nissan Maxima SE

is your PT turbo? b/c my girlfriend has a MAX SE 5-speed and when my car was stock (97 Eclipse GST) she would never win but she could kinda stay with me. those MAX's are preaty quick 190hp 205Tq. is your car stick? is his car stick??

No my PT isnt turbo... mine has the 2.4 high output motor in it. My car is a 5 speed manual and his is an automatic. I think thats why i could get a jump on him, cause i have that direct link from my power to the ground, he has to have fluid transfer put his power to the ground. But nevertheless he did take me by about 3/4's of a car length in the end, but then again his is a 6cyl and mine is a 4cyl, so im proud of my little PT.

I'd also like to know the year of the Max. Them's tough pickens.

the older 4th gen maxima's and even earlier 5th gen maxima's. ( the 3.0 liter ones ) in auto are not the fastest things from a stop. if they were 5 speed, then the results would be very different, but their 4 speed auto's kinda sucks.

They may suck compared to the 5 speeds, but they aren't sucky enough to run doors with a non-turbo PT.

well maxima's have been around for over 20 years. so saying a maxima SE is a very very very broad term.

I totally forgot that we still don't know the year of the car in question...maybe it's a 1st gen 1981 DATSUN maxima?

everyone on the maxima forums thinks they're hot shit. they make up these times for their cars, and almost manage to jusitfy, in their minds, the fwd is better the rwd :lol: maxima is a nice car, but if you just got into cars and read the maxima boards you'd think it was somekind of exotic.

^yeah, it's a 5th and a half generation.

nissan totally changes the maxima's style every 4-5 years, and halfway through each generation they give it an update, the updated 3rd gens got the 190hp DOHC VE30de, the updated 4th gens got new front fascia and a couple other small things, the later 5th gens got HID's, HLSD(opt.), and a 255hp VQ35 w/6 speed. supposedly the updated 6th gens are getting the 4.0L VQ40 out of the new pathfinders w/ around 280 hp.
