I got a 95 4.6 and a friend has a 91 5.0 302 High Output engine, both cars have over 120K miles also.

My car is stock (except for removed air silencer), so is his. Anyway, i got a ride in his car and it felt more punchey, and the 302 has a rumble to it that my car doesn't have..? I looked up stats/hp and i believe they are about the same...but the 302 is a more low-end raw power engine while the 4.6 is a mid-end power car.

Either way is the 302 tbird faster then my 4.6..? Doesn't the 4.6's have better technology behind it..?

no. The 4.6 makes 205 hp. The 5.0 makes 200. The 5.0 has15 more lb ft of torque though, thats probably why it feels more punchy.

Also, another thing to consider is gears..

If your car has 3.08's (like mine) then it feels like a pig, when you punch io matter what gear you're in..

If his had 3.23's or 3.42's..well yeah.

They also have different gear ratios in the trans.

They also have different gear ratios in the trans.

Are you sure? I have rebuilt many 4R70W transmissions (old name AOD) and they are the same only difference is that in '93, Ford went to electronic controls for the transmission. It still has the 2.74:1 first gear, 1.57:1 second gear, 1:1 third gear and 0.67:1 overdrive. The only difference between the two should be the final drive gearing.

4r70w gear ratios:

1 = 2.84
2 = 1.55
3 = 1.00
4 = .70

AOD/AODE gear ratios:

1 = 2.40
2 = 1.40
3 = 1.00
4 = .67
