losing power

We have a 1995 Blazer and had the fuel pump/filter replaced about a month ago. It started losing power a couple of weeks ago. Could it be the catalytic converter? What else would be causing this?

Look to the CPI/Nut kit..probably leaking, pull the upper plenum and look for washing.

Thanks for the reply. Not to sound dumb but what is the CPI/nut kit? Also, it has been getting terrible gas mileage.

The CPI is your Central Port Injection unit (your fuel injectors) and the Nut Kit is the inbound/outbound fuel lines to the injector. Both are under the upper intake plenum.

Is this something that my Husband can do, or does it have to be done at a shop?

It's something he can do with everyday tools. However, he'll want to do his homework by searching this forum. Use the search feature a search: cpi, nut-kit, washing, plenum

There is alot of information here on how to do this. There's even photos on some postings. It'll probably take him most of a Saturday if he hasn't done it before. He should take his time a do a thorough, carefull job. I'd also recommend a Haynes or Chilton's manual from Autozone or one of those places.

Parts:
CPI unit (check advance autoparts)
Nut Kit (Dealer Item)
Upper Plenum gasket (7.00 at advance)

Tools:

10mm deep socket
7mm socket
Pliers
Flat head screwdriver

Thats a common problem, should of had a recall, gm upgraded the part, think it ran me around $300. If you look down into the top of the manifold with a flashlight, and it is real clean, chances are it's that, and the gasoline is leaking out of one of the six hoses, cleaning the inside of the manifold and making your engine run rich. I'm pretty sure that it kicked my check engine light on, but it will run rough and you will most likely smell some gas. It took me a couple of hours to fix, but it wasn't a complicated job. Do some research, to me, the hardest part is diagnosing the problem. Good luck.
