Speaker problems

I have a 1998 Explorer with the Eddie Bauer edition. It has got the Mach Audio system with five speakers and I was wondering what the speaker was that was in the back. I was wondering because there is no noise that comes out of it.

Does it connect to the stereo? If yes, then it might just be your deck doesn't support it. If you don't know, your best bet would be to first see if any of the wires going to the stereo are the same color as the speaker and then connecting those wires to a AA battery (should tell you if the speaker works or not).

I have got another question to ask. How do you get that speaker out of the back because we tried pulling and other things and it just doesn't come out. Is it considered a sub-woofer.

IF your Eddie Bauer has a factory radio, no add on's, take it to the
dealer. Why, cause all Ford dealers sublet radio/stereo repairs to
an authorized radio repair company. Ford Techs do not like to work
on Ford sound systems.
Most of these authorized repair companies have a mobile service guy that visits dealers in their area on a scheduled basis.
Check your dealer and ask him who handles radio warranty repair for
that dealership. Call service dept first, and if they can't help, talk
to the parts manager.
Now, I know that you are out of warranty with Ford, I'm giving you
a backdoor to a resource to find the best qualified person to fix your
problem.
And yes it is a sub-woofer assembly. Has its own amplifier for it too.
This is what makes the diagnosis so difficult.
That is why I suggest one to find out who does the warranty repair
for Ford dealers.
If you decide to replace the complete assembly from Ford, it will
be on obselete part, but the authorized repair company can fix yours
or even have a refurbished unit for replacement.
If you have any aftermarket audio add on's, your on your own.
Sorry, about your thumper.

Would you happen to have any idea of how much the new and refurbished system would cost? Remember the Mach Audio system.

Back when I did Ford parts I think the assembly was only sold
complete[speaker and amp] was about 375.00.
But I will bet that this part is no longer available from Ford.
But I also recall a customer that needed a fix for the same as
yours and the mobile tech replaced the amp for 75.00.
But of course all repairs are different. I have no clue what is
causing your problem, just offering avenues to seek.

The panel that you speak of covers the entire enclosure in the right
rear of the cargo area?
If so, use a kitchen spatula to slide between the panel to find the
mounting points that holds the panel in place. A screwdriver may
mar your panel when you try to pry the panel loose. A spatula is
flexible and will not mar.
Once the panel is removed you should see the woofer speaker.
The speaker is mounted in an enclosure. From here I have no
experience.
Good luck

I found out the diameter of the subwoofer. Now I would like to know whether anybody knows where there are good speakers and subwoofers for cheaper prices? Has anyone ordered anything from mycarjams.com?

OK, starting from the beginning of your thread, I can only assume
that you have found your problem to be the sub woofer speaker
as the culprit. I'm I right?
The original amp for the sub woofer from Ford is desinged to run
that sub woofer. Now that you know the diameter, find a sub
woofer with the same specs as the original Ford sub woofer.
Specs should be inked onto the woofer magnet.
Mainly the ohm's rating and the min watt rating and max watt
rating.
Good Luck, and Happy thumping

What is the best place to order speakers over the internet?
Keep in mind that the ford woofer enclosure is small. Don't over power
with a woofer that requires large inclosures.
Rather than take a chance on an online order, go to your local
radio shops[not radio shack] and they will let you experiment with what woofer
sounds best for your enclosure.
