I read all the post here about the same problem.
My tailgate window doesn't go dow either with the interior switch or the key switch of the tail gate.
I put a 12vdc battery directly on the motor and it works well up and down so I put it down and try to put it up with both switch and it work but I can' put it down.
I hear all the relay on the electronic card located driver side in the back of the truck and I test all the relay and they all work well.
There is limit switch on 1993 4runner that block the window to go down ?
Something very strange is that the rear wiper doesn't work and when I use his switch, only the pump work but it lock and unlock 4 doors !?!?!
Anyone can help me please ?
Thank you!

Ok I found the problem. There is 2 limit switch on the rear wiper and one of them block the window to go down so I bypass it and now the back window is working well up and down.
The wiper is still in trouble because the wash button only start the wash pump and not the wiper motor and do something very strange on the door lock !?!
Anyone can help me ?

You will have to go to the url above and put a jumper between the ground and the return position of the wiper on the control relay electronic card. With the jumper in place, try the window and if the wiper was the problem, it will work.
Hope it will work

I have a 94 and my rear window quit working. Would it be a fuse or the motor?

I had the same problem in my 90, so i replaced the correct relay and the window still wouldnt budge. It would go down, but not up. I went thru and finally realized that i had a bad switch. So i went to the local Toyota Part Man = The "Toy Man". He had 3 switches and they were ALL bad. So make sure its not the switch...Just tryn to get another possibilty out there...

Up here in Canada the salt used to melt ice on the roads in winter gets down into the rear window mechanism and rusts it out. After replacing the entire window opening unit only to have it rust out and seize up 3 years later, I ripped the entire innards out of the tail-gate (window, motor, gears, etc.). I bought a piece of 3/8 inch Lexan plastic which I
cut to the shape of the window, and attached with two brass hinges at the top, and fastened with two small brass barrel bolts at the bottom corners. I used foam tape to malke a tight seal at the sides, and added two light hydraulic lifters to hold the window up. It cost me less than $100 and works fine. The tailgate is much lighter, and the back is much easier to access, in fact I can open it up with one hand while holding a package in the other. Looks good too! Cheers
