95 PAU - moonroof malfunction

Today I decided to apply a thin coat of lithium grease to the rails on my moonroof. No sooner than I capped the spray can the moonroof became "dumb". What I mean is that the moonroof doesn't seem to know when it's open or closed. If I push the switch button to the rear it will automatically open all the way (normal) and then start clicking (I'm guessing this is a clutch of some sort slipping). It will do this until I push the button to the front at which time the motor stops and the roof will remain open.
Then when I push the button forward, to close the roof, it will go to, and past, the closed position to the "tilt" position. It stops when it gets there. From this position, when I push the button back to close the roof it will return to the fully open position (passing closed) and start the clicking again.
Do ya think this is just a coincidence that the "closed" sensor failed when I applied the grease or could I have screwed something up?

Is there no help on this? I think the coincident factor is way too high. Anybody? How 'bout you T'man?
