theres a 97 eclipse GST convertible in a dealer for $8,995 w/ 90,000 miles, manual transmission on it. theres a 1 failed emission inspection on the carfax report. what do you guys think? should i get it or not? should i get a convertible or not?
I dont know how to drive a manual yet but im looking forward learning it. I just know how to drive a motorcycle w/ manual transmission. they said its the same. any tips for me?
Thanks!!!

Try to talk the dealer down to about 5-6 grand, I was able to get a GS-T(no convertable) for about 4600 with 80k miles on it if I remember correctly. For the failed emissions, look underneath the car, if theres a cat converter, then theres something wrong with the exhaust. No cat converter = high emissions, so if you dont see a cat converter, thats the reason why.
Manual transmissions are very easy to drive, just dont go past redline.

I agree, try to talk the dealer down. Depending on where you live, I doubt you could talk him down that low. I was thinking more like 7 grand for a dealer would be a fair price. If you can get him that low, snatch it up. Driving a manual takes a few days to get the hang of, but after that its smooth sailing.

I dunno, it's nice to take a break from the constant shifting and short gearing of the awd in the city and drive an automatic car for a day or two, IMO :) For a sporty car though I will always prefer a manual tranny, short gearing or not ;)

$7000 would be a good price for the GS-T, at least here in CA. Consider anything under $6500 a deal, and the check engine light is probably a bad second O2 sensor... mines been lit for over a year. Right Vince? lol.
edit: sorry didnt see the removed cat...yeah, thats one MAJOR reason the light would be on, lol.

I personally think that it is not a good deal....does the car NOW pass smog? Correct me if I am wrong but dealers are responsible for taking care of smog checks so you woulden't have to worry about that. I would look local before going to a dealer.....7k for a gst w/ 90k seems steep IMO. If you don't care about everyone knowing you drive a mitsu eclipse, consider an eagle talon, cheaper same car asides cosmetics. I got my 95 talon for 3750 w/ 103k, so I'm sure you can find something for cheaper than 7K talked down. IMO dealers are for new cars and last resorts. craigslist.org is the place to go.

7k would be a decent price because:
its a 97 2g
its a spyder (more rare than coupe)
its a gst
its a manual
it has under 100,000 miles
IMO, good deal. You can't find too many of them anymore that meet those criteria, within reasonable distance of your home.
