a few problems

I have a few problems with my 95 eclipse GS...

1) I'm burning quite a bit of oil and i'm not sure what's causing it, there's quite a bit of blue smoke coming out of my tailpipe and my low oil light comes on about a week or so after i top it off. I can feel a little blow-by when i put my finger in the oil filler hole, but not enough to feel any when i hold my hand above the hole, so i'm not sure if its my piston rings or not. I've already tested the fuel pressure regulator and i know thats not causing it.

2) I have a power steering fluid leak, but its nowhere near the power steering pump, its leaking somewhere on the drivers side near the firewall. i'm guessing its probably my rack & pinion because i can see fluid dripping from it, but i want to make sure it might not be something smaller before i go out and buy a new rack & pinion.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks.

1) your rings are shot. you can do a compression test to verify that

2) get a new rack & pinion.

i should have updated this...

i did put in a new rack & pinion. that was the problem.

also, i did a compression test and all cylinders were around 70 psi. is this correct?

70 psi is way too low. Sounds like your rings are shot. Either that or your head is in need of guides, seals, etc.

if you're getting 70 for compression AND burning oil, the rings are shot. you'll have to pull the motor and either do a quick ghetto ass rebuild and just do the rings or a complete re-build. or you can just buy a different motor too.
