98 villager a/c again

Ok, I was able to determine how much 134 the A/C system on my folks' van holds. Now, I need some info on the low side pressure.
When I checked it yesterday, the low side was reading between 50-60 psi. This seems a little high to me. But, since it's dual system, I'm not sure. Can somebody tell me?
The symptom I'm trying to diagnose is the compressor clutch kicking on and off continuously. But, the problem is only sporatic.
I was getting vent temps of 60 degrees or less in the 95 degree heat yesterday.

Check the sensor on the top of the bottle or in the line it may be leaking. Also if you have rear ac check under the car for leaks right under the drivers door seem, or on the lock side to make it easier to picture. There is the connection for the front lines to the rears and due to age and weather the rust and break off causing small to large leaks and eventually no AC. Also if its not leaking you may want to put some grease on it so it is protected from rust.

In my experience, when the clutch kicks on and off sporadically, that usually means that it has just enough gas to work, and as the outside temprature drops & rises, the pressures in the system rise and fall, getting below the limit and activating the low pressure cutoff switch (which kicks the clutch off) occasionally. You should see it when it has a little less freon than that, the clutch goes nuts going on and off every 2 seconds (and it can burn itself out doing it that frequently, unless you unplug it). It's a good thing that yours isn't that severe.

Edit: If you're only getting 60ºF vent temps on a 95º day, that is a pretty solid sign of not enough Freon. Sometimes, when you get close to the right amount of Freon, the last little bit can make a big difference in output temps. FWIW, our front air-only R134a '95 can pull 33+ degrees less than ambient with the correct amount of Freon. Also, the factory spec'd amount of freon can be a bit low, depending on the vehicle. We usually fill to spec and try adding just a little to see if the output temps get better. Good Luck!
