I have a late production model 1995 Sentra (built 06/95)and the check engine light just came on. It runs fine and doesn't appear to have any problems but the light stays on. Can I buy an obd2 scanner for this or do I need an obd1 for this car? Does Nissan do like the old EECIV Fords and turn on the light at a given hour set point to get you to bring it in for an "emission tune up" ? A friend of mine did say the plug under the dash was for a obd2 scanner but the Haynes manual says a 95 is OBD 1. Thanks Brad

Well for the 1.6, which I am assuming you have, in the 95 model is both OBD 1 and OBD 2, as in there are some of each. If your IACV is on the thottle body, then it is OBD 2, and if it is on the passenger side of the intake manifold, then it is OBD 1, if I remember correctly.

Take it to autozone or someplace that does the scan for free first. Then have them check it with there scanners and ask which one they used. For one that could be either, that is the best way to find out.
