a couple questions before i start my next model

Hey everyone - I'm about to put everything I've read and learned about on these forums into an actual model. Test Subject: Tamiya BMW Z3. I'm going to be using testor/model master acrylic paints... white primer, gold base, clear blue top coat, clearcoat (if needed) - tested it out with brushes and it looks pretty cool.
now my questions... I have not sprayed with acrylic paints before (I will be testing before I actually start on the model, I just don't want to learn by frustrating myself more than i will anyways  ). I've read on here that 3 parts isopropyl alcohol to one part water makes a good thinner for acrylic paints. is this correct? i also assume you thin it to the same consistency as you would for an enamel? Also, when painting the smaller parts, like for the interior or the engine, do you paint the pieces before you take them off the sprue, then once you cut them off, paint over the cut area? or do you cut them off then paint?
Also, any tips you guys have about this particular model, or something thats not covered in the FAQ or How-To section?
thanks a lot!

I couldn't tell you much about painting with acrylics, or that particular kit. but I can say this... I always cut the part from the sprue before I paint so I get an even coat all around. and so I can clean the part up more easily (get flashing, fill holes, take care of any imperfections, and what not) hope this helps.

Personally, I cut all but the minute details from the sprue (rearview mirror kept on, wheels off the sprue for example). I cut them off carefully then sand the edge clean then attach to BBQ skewers with blu-tack and then spray all the small pieces in one go with the primer. Everyone has their own methods but this one works best for me!
