I read the post about the 97 metro that wouldn't start. I have a 93 Metro that I was driving down the highway and everything just stopped, I lost my power and now it wont start. It sounds like it wants to start but it won't. We removed the distributor cap and checked to see if the rotor turns. It did not turn so I assume that the timing belt is broken. Where is the timing belt? Is it something that the average person can do? Help!!!

timing belt is under plastic cover on front of the engine. it can be done using basic hand tools. if you haven't worked on cars much before i suggest you get a metro manual and follow the steps. takes less than 2 hours to do

Aren't these interference engines? Does that not mean if the timing belt breaks it bends all the valves?

1.0/1.3SOHC engines are non-interference. 1.3DOHC, and 1.3SOHC 16v are interference engines.

Thank you for your reply. I won't be doing the repair work myself. I have a friend who is very knowledgable about cars and he has volunteered to help. He just doesn't know much about metros but he knows his way around cars. Your response has been very helpful.
