trouble code p0171 what do i check out

hey guys whats up,the service engine soon light just came on & when we hooked up the scanner i got code p0171(system adaptive fuel to lean bank one)or some body else called it fuel trim to lean bank 1.my question is what does it mean & where do i need to start to check this out? i am not to familar with the new systems.any help will be much appreciated got no money for a dealer visit its a 2001 s-10 v6 wwith a throttle body type fuel injector thanks again :confused:

thanks for the tip overboardproject, lots of info there.i filled the truck up with better gas not the cheap one on the corner & the light went out 20 miles later i'am still going to run some injector cleaner through the fuel system & clean the maf sensor wish me luck thanks again
