let me start this off by saying i hate cops.... sneaky fuckers!!! well about a week ago i got my $300 bmx bike stolen.. and i gotta tip where it was and who has it.. well my buddy follows me in his big ass chevy truck, im in my SE-R and i hit it, going at 100 + mph, then i think wait i need to slow my ass down.. holiday weekend. then im going 65, and then put it on cruise control.. my buddy catches back up.. not knowing a cop was behind him the whole time.. the cope gets half way in the other lane without lights on.(i was looking in my rear view mirror).. then going down a hill then the road levels out again.. and then i see him with his lights on in the other lane like he was gonna pass my friend and come after me.. so i pull over and my buddy also pulls over.. he comes to my window first and says he clocked me about 3 miles ago going 76, and asks for lisence and proof of insurance.. ok.. then he goes back to my friends truck and says he paced us at 72 mph...
one hour later he gets back out of his car and gives me a speeding ticket, but he wrote it for 70.. waste of 75 bucks... but then he wrote my friend a ticket and it said 70 +.... he was behind me... hmm im going slower than he was and was behind me... sounds funny hunh? well here is my question.. im 16 and my insurance on my car is 75.88 a month from state farm right now.... will my insurance go up from this ticket?? and if so about how much? thanks for any info.. and watch out for those damn cops... i think i lost my mind.... :screwy: :lol2:

Well what was the speed limit? That can factor into how much it will go up, but since you are 16, I can say that it will probably go up anywhere from 200-400 a year. It sucks, but just consider yourself damn lucky you didn't get clocked doing 100+MPH. And while this cop seems a little shady, you both were speeding, and you said your friend was catching up to you, so he probably was going faster. Cops are just doing their job, unless he pulls any real shenanigans, no need to hate.

take it to court, any time they alter your speed when they write the ticket you stand a good chance at getting it thrown out, i took mine ot court because it was an undercover clocking me 10ft behind me in traffic doing 65, he didnt pulla nyone else that was doing the same speed, just me, im thinking my "engineered to outperform" liscense plate maybe made him pick me....

yea..i'd surely take it to court. Because he changed the speed they will have it questioned. Since it's not certain abou what speed u were going, then u can challenge it. My friend did it, he was goin 45 past a friends car goin 30 and said he was speeding cuz they saw him pass the other car with great speed. Your lawyer will take care of it, it should come down to the fact that it was wrong, and u dont have to pay the ticket, or if u do, he'll get the points taken away so no higher insurance.

What state are you in, cause I live in California, and we have some deal going on in Fresno (where I live) that if were under age of 18 and its our first ticket we can go take this class, not traffic school, and the ticket is thrown out. but it may be a local thing, it worked for me and I was 23 mph over. If this isnt available you should try to get traffic school, it will suck but its better than paying the money.

i went to court house and they told me that since it was my first ticket and it wasnt over 20mph over the speed limit, i could pay 200 bucks instead of the 75 and get put on court supervision, which i can't get a ticket for 90 days or i wont be able to drive for 3 months. but after that 90 days it is a clean record, and they wont tell my insurance.. but will i still be able to get my discounts?

Yeah you'll get your discounts, and hell with state farm your insurance probably won't go up any. I got a ticket for 81 in a 55 and failure to come to a complete stop at a stop sign and my insurance didn't go up a cent

Yeah, most insurance companies don't drop the hammer on you until you become a problem. I live in MD and the rule (unspoken, and for first time offenders) in MD is if you are pulled over and not going more than 20 over the limit, if you show up at court, and plead guilty, apologize and if you feel like it give a quick explanation, they fine your 35 bucks (court costs) and send you on your way. Don't sweat it, everyone get's one eventually, just be careful and don't pick up a bunch of points, that's when insurance gets nasty. Especially keep it clean between the years of 21-25, cause at 25 you are out of the demographic that says 16-24 drivers are the worst. At 25 my insurance halved :).

Well... you have to look at it this way. Not all cops are bad... they are just doing their jobs. I'm actually halfway through school right now on my way to become a cop. The cop did you a favor in the first place by marking the ticked down from... i think you said 76 ...which is a lower priced ticket. Not all cops are bad, they are just trying to make a living. The point is you were in the wrong for doing 100+ anyway and as someone said earlier, you were lucky he didn't clock you doing that. In my opinion you shouldn't be driving over 100 in any case since you are only 16 and don't have enough experience... however we all do it.For future advice, also... if you ever get pulled over again (which you will) never be a smartass to the cop because it won't make a difference. 90% of the time cops have already made up their minds if they are going to write a ticket or not before they get out of their cruiser. Just be nice and give them a brake... they are people too.
On a lighter note, why did your friend pull over too? If you ask me, that was a stupid move that got him a ticket.
