my 74 eldo lost it's trans. fluid!!

Hi, I was taking my 74 Eldo convertable out for a drive after having bought 4 new tires for it and having tuned it up pretty good with new vac lines, which helped alot, when , as I am backing out of the garage, all of it's tranny fluid leaks out onto the floor. I noticed that the fluid level on the dip stick was a couple of inches too high, but I figured I'd pump some out later. Was it too much pressure that blew something out, and what could it have been, the pan gasket? Thanks, Larry

A couple of inches on the dipstick is WAY WAY WAY to high.
High levels of fluid can cause airation of the fluid and affect perforrmance. However, too-high levels usually do not blow out seals or gaskets. However, some of the excess may have been pushed out the the filler tube.

IMHO suck out the excess fluid, wipe up the excess fluid and drive it a bit and see if its still leaking, If yes, have a clsoe look to see where the leak is. Then post the info is necessary and we can go from there.

Actually high levels of tranny fluid cause the seals inside of the tranny to absorb to much fluid causing them to decompose and break down. I dont believe that it could cause your tranny pan seal to do that but you never know. It might of been another seal on the inside of the tranny causing it to blow out by the flywheel or the rear seal where the output shaft comes out. That seal might have blown.
