This is a project I started a couple years ago and just now exhumed in order to finish. It's an R-M kit which i intended to make a mild custom of with Tamiya Gunmetal body, red/black interior and Fujimi 18" OZ Superturismo wheels which definitely beat the stock wheels but (i think) still fit the car.

While giving this old build the once over, i spotted a small depression on the hood. I tried to gently level the paint, but as you can see, it changed the depth of the paint too much--oh well, a hood is easy to respray. The blemish is in the middle-right.

Here i dry-fit the wheels for an idea of the look. I had a heck of a time grinding out the backs of the rims to fit on the R-M uprights! :banghead:

Indeed, the rims look nice on the Vette!

Btw, the green tape is to keep the intake manifold from scratching when i'm working on the chassis. (It happened on my last 'Vette) :grinno:

A bit of an update:

I was thinking of making it a red/black mix, so i masked off some interior parts and airbrushed them satin black (tho they came out a bit too shiny--hmm...).

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/216287IMG_1092-med.jpg

I also had an accident with my hood--while the paint was drying, something fell on it, so out came the sandpaper  Oh well.

Hey, Loving the color scheme you are doing, and the interior two tone should look awsome. Rims suit this car well, keep up the good work

I finally got the interior sprayed right--the first time, i used MM Acryl Semi-Gloss Black which ended up to shiny. :nono: So i mixed Tamiya Semi-Gloss and Flat Black, which turned out pretty good. The masking lines turned out sharp for the most part, except for pulling up a bit of red (time for some touch-up).

A test fit of the interior:

I was going to say... that green tape keeps dirt and debris out of the intake!!! I did the same thing on my 1:1 f100, even used green tape!!!! hahaha

I like it. those wheels look awesome on that color, and car. I run the same wheels on my vette on Gran Turismo!!! haha

I need to bust out my vettes and get to work on them. I started mine about 10 years ago and put it away...just never got too thrilled with it.

Here's some pics from yesterday's work. I finally finished the interior and mated it with the chassis. Because I painted and partially assembled the chassis a year ago, it's nothing special so no pics.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b306/chorister/IMG_1105.jpg

My housemate figured the seats were a bit plain, so i took his suggestion of attempting to paint the stitching and scraping the red off the Corvette script. I think it worked...

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b306/chorister/IMG_1107.jpg

I also finished off a few details and put in a bit of work matching colors, but it looks like an interior i'd love to own in 1:1--enjoy!

Keeping my eye on this.

More progress from the weekend:

I'm starting to wrap up this build and knocking off the details, so i tackled the painting of the windshield surrounds. I've hand-painted many of these and some of them come out quite good, but it's such tedious work! So, i took the still-tedious but different approach of cutting my own mask. Here I've already sprayed, and i was even ambitious enough to mask off the little window in the lower driver's side where a factory (VIN, perhaps?) number is pasted.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b306/chorister/IMG_1124.jpg

Below, the results: perhaps not worthy of bragging, but a little touch-up and it'll look great.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b306/chorister/IMG_1126.jpg

I also got around to polishing the body. The paint was fairly level in most places, so i usually started with a bit of MicroMesh 6000, then 8000 and 12000, then rubbed it out with Tamiya Compound (my new best tool :p ) No studio quality (or feeble attempt at such) pics for you--just a couple to tease.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b306/chorister/IMG_1127.jpg

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b306/chorister/IMG_1128.jpg

I then took some mesh from the Tamiya 360 Modena and covered the front fascia intakes, instead of scratchbuilding fog-lights.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b306/chorister/IMG_1131.jpg

Here the windshield is mated to the body

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b306/chorister/IMG_1132.jpg

Ahh, blinkers! Well, for the first time, i used BMF to back the lenses, and it although BMF is sometimes finicky to use, I had no problems

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b306/chorister/IMG_1138.jpg

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b306/chorister/IMG_1139.jpg

I did the same with the tail-lights, and i think the results beat the heck out of silver, white, or other metallic paints! Takes a few minutes to get right, though--i cut around the lenses to get the right size, and after adjusting the placing, hardly any trimming was needed. The glue (Testors clear parts glue) didn't work out the best, though--i looked at the taillights today and there were bubbles underneath :banghead: Anyone know how to remedy this?

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b306/chorister/IMG_1142.jpg

Oh well, all in all, a rather productive couple of days. I might be able to finish this one off next weekend: i've still got the fuel rail covers to redo before i can finish detailing the engine bay--DetailMaster CF doesn't show up well over black paint, let me tell you.

I'm jealous of that shine!! :smokin:
Tha's a really nice tip with the VIN window! I haven't seen it done before. If I weren't into older cars so much, I would defininately "borrow" that idea ;)
Bummer on the reart lights. You painted over teh BMF, right? If you think you can't get rid of the bubbles, couldn't you just peel off the BMF and do it again?

Although I'm not terribly fond of red interiors, yours is very well done, with clean crisp lines. For more contrast, or difference, maybe paint part of the steering wheel black (ie, flags in the center, or outer grip)

I painted around the vin tag on the window of my Z06's as well. If I recall correctly, it's molded in; nice touch. I don't have the patience to tape it all off, though. I didn't think to put mesh in, but the Z06 kits come with fog lights.

It's funny, I built the AMT version of this car in an identical color. Yours looks more shiny, though.

What a gorgeous Vette! Nice job resurrecting this one, the paint is great and the interior too.
However, as far as the bubbles in your rear lights, there isn't much you can do. The last time I did this, I ended up having to yank the lenses off, clean off the glue with a wet Q-tip, and reglue them.
A tip for the future: With Testors clear parts cement, only apply glue around the edges of the parts to glue, and any squeeze-out will dry invisible.

DOOD< THATS FREAKIN" SWEET!!! I might suggest that you just re-try the tail lights, they look good (save for the bubbles) I think all you'd need to do is use a tooth pick to pick out the dried glue and BMF, then re try it. you could also thin the glue with a little water before putting it in, and building it up.

there is this stuff at hobby lobby called instant water, in the train stuff. just heat it (melts at like 140*f, which should be safe for your vette) and pour it in. then paint the red and wah-lah! tail aights.

Finally got some time this weekend to do a bit of finishing work on the Vette. I found out that my DM CF was black with clear (not silver) dots, so my black fuel rail covers ended up being textured black :disappoin . Well, that just wouldn't do, so out came the Castrol Super Clean. Now I've got titanium silver underneath the decals, so it doesn't look too bad, tho it still looks more like polka-dot than CF. I dunno--what think?

Yep, that CF does look a bit "polka dot-ish" to me too, but I'm no expert as I haven't even used CF yet :)

CF'd other side...still not sure whether to leave them or paint them something else--it doesn't look quite as bad as pics...I'll decide tomorrow...

I misted some hobby store clear acrylic spray over the covers, and they've got a good semigloss finish. I might still airbrush some smoke or thinned black to tone down the silver a bit.

Finally got some more work done on this...almost done. I've got the body ready to put on the chassis, and i spent a couple hours getting the engine details right (although i'm not 100% done yet). I still hafta build some replacements for the lost chrome pieces for the side mirrors, but i'm pretty well ready to join the two halves. I also decided to airbrush some clear blue over the fuel rail covers for a better effect on the CF. I've included a couple pics of the engine--the light isn't the greatest, but it gives you an idea.

Great work man. I'm very impressed by your interior and paint job. Please get some good cf. It's a shame to waste such a nice engine bay with out of scale decals.

looking great so far. Revell really put some extreme details on the C5 kits (like the separate interior door handles and VIN tags) I think spraying something darker will tone down the cf...like smoke or thinned black, as you said.

I agree. The cf is not the best. I love everything else though. Do a Google search to get some pics of the CF cam covers and heat shields and you will get an idea what to do.

Other than that, :smokin:
