S-10 AC system

Does anyone have any ideas on how to charge (and what is need to do so) an AC system on a '98 S-10 Any advise and or input is greatly appreciated.

Is your system empty?
If so you'll probably just have to replace the o-rings and get it filled back up. Although get it tested for leaks first.

Then I would let the refrigeration pro's fill it for you.
Any appliance repair person can fill it back up, and if they are a friend they might not even charge you

Look into Hot Shot Freon, I've heard that it works better than most others and makes your truck nice and cold

if u take it in its like 500 min they by law have to fill it whth r134a with a uv dy find the leak fix it and drain and refill

Does your system have R12 or R134a refrigerant? If you have a R12 system, you will need ot convert your system to R134a. I strongly suggest replacing the dryer/accumulator when you make this switch. So pros will tell you that you need to completely replace all components with the system when you convert to R134a, but this is simply not neccessary. I would go ahead and replace the o-rings on all the hose connection as well. Once the switch is complete, you must pull vacuum with an AC vacuum pump. This needs to be done for at least 30 minutes. This will remove all moisture from the system and once 30 minutes has passed, shut off the pump and watch your gauges for about 5-10 minutes for any pressure drop which would be an indication of a leak. If it holds pressure, you should be okay. If the system is completely empty. Now you're ready to begin charging. NEVER charge into the high pressure side!!!! Always charge in the low pressure side (larger hose). If you do not know how to charge yourself, you should get a pro to do so.

I spoke to an air conditioning expert, and he sayes that you can use Hot Shot (R414B) in a stock R-12 system without any modification Although you do have to get the system flushed and check it for leaks.
Plus aparently it works better than R134
