I am considering buying this talon that is for sale near me, but need your guys' opinion on the reliability of it. I know its all how the car was treated in the past, but I don't exactly want to turn into a mechanic on my first car either.

Here's a link to some pics... http://www.cardomain.com/ride/802087

And here's what was written in the for sale post.

"The car has been painted Lightning Blue by Macco last spring.
it comes with PW/PL/PM, Sunroof, cruse.
The body has 160k on it, the motor was put in by past owner, which has less, motor has compression of 145psi accrost the 4 cyl's which is preaty good...
when i got the car i put on a rebuilt head and new gasket, and new timing belts..

car has new breaks, new driver side balljoint, tie rod.

mods the car has are:

3" turbo back exhaust
255lph Walbro Pump
FMIC from a 1990 Supra
MBC @ 15psi
Boost Gauge
Palm m100 DataLogger setup (mounted on dash)
Fuel filter mounted Fuel Pressure Gauge.

--------

The Bad -
The transmission (like any typical DSM), has bad 1st and 2nd gear syncro's so when its warm it likes to grind when you shift gears, good news is i'm including a transmission i bought that was fully checked over by shep racing and said to be good (hybrid qouted me 300$ to install tranny with a new clutch)

it will also need new tires, and could use some rear shocks soon..

---------

bonus parts

1. comes with a spare head thats in decent shape, has all rollers/lifters/etc
also comes with spare cams, (i also have NT cams if wanted?)

2. 2 spare radiators
2. Pass side new balljoint and tierod
3. spare cluster
4. spare turnsignal/headlight stalk/switchs
5. misc engine pullys/brackets, ac compressors, flywheel, etc?

i am lookin to get 1800$ for this

reason i am selling is i've got way to much debt and to many cars, and my income just doesnt match lol"

Any input would be greatly appreciated, and please try to be as unbiased as DSM lovers can be :)

Sounds Like A Good Deal To Me. I Paid $4000 For Mine, But It Had Alot Of Mods Done To It Already. So, If You Like It, Get It. We Can't Tell You What To Do. Good, Luck.

If you are looking for a reliable car. I doubt a turbo talon will fit you. It can be reliable but come on, you have to expect a boost leak here and there and with a few mods done to it, things can break on a 15/16 year old car. Owning it will be a good learning experience, I'd tell him 2 grand with the tranny installed. I say learn about dsm's, get that tranny in,and enjoy.

Sounds like a really good deal, i'd say go for it a deal like doesn't come around too often as for the reliability i'd say it's as reliable as any other $1800 car out there plus its tons of fun to drive
