I think i have a great idea!!!!

I want to mate an s10 with a fiero....HOW COULD YOU DO SUCH A THING?!?!?!?
Heres what i what to do. I want to take the whole drivetrain from a fiero including all suspension, and wheel assemblies, and put it into the bed of the s10.
the rear wheel base of the fiero is 61'', and the rear base on the s10 is 60''. I plan on a rear mount for the radiator and would like some help on a good spot. One thing i didnt think about was power steering. I dont know how i would work that out yet. I dont really want the lines running to the front. I dont know tho, thats the glory of this project. The end result of this will be me putting a 350 to the fiero tranny. but that will take atleast two years for me to get up the money after this swap. I am completely serious about doing this and would love the imput from you guys and gals.
Great or what?
Give all of your feelings guys and i will try to answer any questions that i have thought about.

Someone else was looking into it on this board about a year ago too.

The power steering shouldn't be a problem, just use steel fuel line through the frame, with the proper fittings. You can also just use a Vega steering box (corvair is lighter, and the same design). Use the same idea for the power brakes, or run manual brakes.
I like the idea of getting 2 smaller rads made up, and making special porshe 911 style side vents made up.

Since your going to be spending a lot of time and money on this project you might want to consider a Big Block if the transmission will handle it.
Or if you win the Lotto it would really kick some serious ass if you used a V10, or even a V12.

Good Luck, and have fun.
If you can post pics on a web site, and let us know the address

those trannys can't take much power. If you really get on it with a stock v8 it will grenade the trans.

You will have the have the trans built to the hilt in order to take the kind of beating any maniac would love to give it.

As for putting all that into an s10. I wouldn't do it. It will be a insane amount of work. I jsut send you a good luck and i hope you got a big pocket book. All the little things will add up very very quickly.

If you find a wrecked porshe boxter it would be even a better parts car than the fiero.
And the transmission is built for some power

i read 250 hp will tear it to nothing

Their top hp rating is 280hp, and I don't think that Porshe ever built a car that couldn't easily be performance tweaked. And they like to keep their cars reliable.
That is largely how they win races.

I really don't see this happening.

The shop I work at tried that a few years ago. and all they wound up doing was destroying a perfectly good s-10. Big rule of thumb here is to not get over complicated. good luck tho! hope you have the patience of a saint

well the project is on hold for the moment...i had a fiero lined up and the guy backed out and sold it to his sister's duaghter. I found a websire called v-8 archie and these guys are backing a chevy 350 to that fiero tranny and they are driving them hard. Now i dont know if they are beefing up the tranny or not. One of the cars had an LT1 sooo. I think it might handle it. I looked into the adapter kit for the v-8 swap and its 1100 bucks. I just want to start out slow tho.
I would really like to get this off the ground. I also found some new inspiration. It was a cadillac v8 in the bed of a dakota in missouri. It was pretty sweet. it was for sale too(4500 bucks). I just dont have that kind of cash upfront otherwise i would have scapped my idea and just gone with it.

not sure as to Fiero auto trans, but 5spd with only modded clutch pak can withstand excess of 400hp.
V8 swaps and Quad4s from international Olds are excellent motors to swap, and the Super Duty Iron Dukes can be forced upto 3-400hp.
it is not the trans, but the axleshafts you need to worry about.

..heading to work now; will conjure up the info on these swaps and post this eve.

If the guy did the swap himself he'll probably give you some hints on what to do.

One thing that you can probably do is use a normal transmission, flip the differential to point backwards, and use a transfer case to re-direct the power.
You'll require 2 drive shafts for this setup, but you can sure use strong compodents.
Some T-cases only have the 1 output shaft, sometimes going back the way it goes in, but you might have to look at Farm Equiptment to find one.

haven't found all the info at work;
may be in colorado (i'm currently in houston)

-mag. date article

Hot Rod, Dec. 1997 - 151Proof ; 2.5 super duty on 110octane pushing 3horsepower per cubic inch with an 11,000RPM redline!

Super Chevy mag, May 1986 - Entech Fiero GTP; also known as the Spice/Entech (British/USA Team effort) using a punched 2.5 Super Duty (or 2.9ltr marine/boat eng.) @12.5:1 compression, netting 330HP @ 7500RPM, and 300ft/lb of torque @ 6000 RPM

...if you elect to use a Fiero powerplant for your project, I'd recommend an '86-87 block, as the '88 was changed on Fiero and offered little performance components; whereas the '86-87 had an aftermarket following with headers, manifolds, over-sized injectors, TBIs, etc.

as far as your project goes with the engine in rear of S10; possibly a scoop below, or to the sides of the bed, and mounting the radiator in the rear; or elec. pusher and pullers fans---
or doing like fiero did, and run aluminum piping to a front mounted rad.
