Looking for a AMP

I've been looking around for good sub to put in my firebird. people have suggested the RE series and i think they would be a good choice. i want to put 2 RE 10's in a box. each sub is:

10"
175 RMS watts
dual 4 ohm

now i need a amp to power the subs. i need some recommendations that would fit the specs of the subs. as far as budget, i was looking around at profile amps. i saw that they're around 60$-80$. so anything around there is good.

thanks.

Profile AP1000 would work just fine...

the amp says its 160 rms watts at 4 ohms and 240rms at 2 ohm. how do i get it hooked up at 4 ohm?

here's how you'll wire it to 4ohm
http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/wiringwizard.asp?WoofQty=2+woofers&WoofImp=Dual+Voice+Coil+-+4+ohms+x+2&image.x=21&image.y=6

the only problem i see right now, is that you may want more power than just the 160 watts for both subs.

well, each sub can only handle 175watts rms. so i dont wanna go over that. right?

highteknology

right, but what i'm saying is that one of the amps you are looking at is only going to put out 160 watts. the wiring diagram up there shows two woofers hooked up. so, the amp would theoretically be pshing 160 watts for two subs, or like 80 watts a sub. im pretty youd want a little more

well, the amp is a 2 channel amp that has 160 watts PER channel. so its like each sub is getting 160 watts.

should i get a amp that puts out about 200 watts per channel?

i jsut did a dual RE12 install using an Hifonics NX400, 200WRMS per channel, 2ohm. and it sounds pretyt awesome. and the RE's can tale 250W, but not for extend periods of time. and keep in mind that you only get 160W when its @ full volume, so make sure your speakers and handle full volume.

i found a profile AP 1200 that puts out 200rms watts at 4ohm. so would this be a good amp to get?

If each sub can handle 175 watts RMS you would want an amp that puts out about 350 watts RMS.

Here are your options.

1. get a mono sub amp that puts out about 350 watts RMS at either 2 or 4 Ohms. Use wiring option #1 from the link above for a 2 Ohm load or Wiring option #2 from the link above for a 4 Ohm load. Mono amps are usually stable in both 2 and 4 Ohms.

2. get a 2 channel amp that can be bridged and is 4 ohm stable and puts out about 350 watts RMS in bridged mode. Use wiring option #2 from the link above.

Usually, an amp is bridged by connecting the speaker leads to the positive (+) terminal from one channel and the negative (-) terminal from the other channel

profile HA600 = 300 rms watts bridged (4ohm)

hows that amp?

I'm installing two 10" subs and I bought them at ebay for about $50 brand spanking new. I also got an 800W kenwood amp for $80.

what kind of subs are they?

profile is over rated, so is hifonics but for your situation id look at Hifonics NX400. its rated at 200w RMS x 2 @2ohm. so wire each subs coils in parallel and then each sub to a chanel.

it'll wand decently hard. RE's are good budget subs.

the Hifonics NX400 is 120$. i wasnt looking to spend that much on an amp. could i just find another amp that puts out 220rms watts for cheaper?

hifonics are a lil overated, but not as much as some companys[not to say names. audiobahn] but the NX400 w/ 2 RE12's is a pretty good budget system.

Profile CL600 600 2 Channel Amp.

225 RMS watts X 2 at 2ohm.

this amp sounds like itd work perfectly. what do you think?

CBFryman

i'd do fine. if thats what you want go for it.

profile is pretty reliable from what ive heard, ive beel looking into a few different ones for my mids/highs they are just overrated but you'll get 150wx2 maybe. output will be close with just that little power change.

the amp says that it'll put out 225 watts rms but it'll accually put out around 150??

Some amps are underrated and some are overrated. It depends on the brand of amp you buy. Some companies overrate their amps and say they put out more watts than they actually do. some companies underrate their amps and you can get more watts out of it than the company rating states.

Look for the CEA compliant seal. http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/promotions/CEA_logo2.gifIt is a voluntary standard used to rate amps. It gives you a standard to compare amp ratings.
Companies like Rockford Fosgate, Sony, Kenwood, Kicker, and infinity use this standardhttp://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/images/smilies/2cents.gifhttp://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/images/smilies/2cents.gif

lol too bad sony, keenwood, and infinity all overrate their amps ;)

look at how mayne watts it puts out at what voltage...12.5 or 14.4 or (some go as far as this which few cars have this high of a voltage) 17v. the higher the voltage its rated out the more overrated that statistic may be. on regulated powersupplies it doesnt matter.

also there is a different between 1ohm impeadance and 1ohm nominal impeadane. nominal means they usually rate at a 2.67ohm impeadance.

on top of this a lot of comapnies just throuw out figures which they expect from their circutry design and never actually benched the amp. this could be goood or bad.

and RMS is what matters, some companies like legacy like to throw out 1000w like its easy... well that is peak wattage (voltage actually) andit can only withsand these voltage peaks fora very short period of time before they fry...a legacy amp that says 1000w is more like 100-200... ;)

or a blitz audio amp, 1000W [500Wx2} in actuallity its about 125Wx2 so about 1/4 the said power.the better the company the closer the specs are going to be to the real thing.

ohh lord, don't even start with that CEA stuff ... they had a good idea, then it was sabotaged by companies that wrote the requirements so loose they are pretty much meaningless

RG501

is profile a good amp company? cause i think i found a good amp to power my subs - that is if the RMS watts they tell me are correct.

profile is fialry good, if your on a budget id get it.

RG501
07-15-2005, 01:18 PM
so you think that this amp would be good for me then?

225rms watts x 2 at 2 ohm.
