new carb and intake installation

hey guys i just installed an edelbrock performer intake and carb on my 86 monte ss im having some trouble making the the rods for my gas pedal and the other rod and spring work on the carb, does anyone know what i have to do to get it to just bolt on or do i have to "make" it work? Did anybody do this upgrade to their car and have some tips? A buddy of mine said that i could just hook up the throttle cable and be alright, but then i heard that one is a kick down cable that i need and one is a cruise control that i dont need cuz it doesnt work anyways, any help would be very much appreciated
