1988 - Key won't turn all the way

When I put my key into the ignition, I can only turn it as far as accessory. When I go to start it, it feels like it's blocked somehow. Would this be a problem with the ignition switch?

Accessory position is acheived by turning the key backwards. Are you saying that you can't turn it forwards at all or you just can't get it to go to the crank position? Some older GM vechiels have a mechanical method of preventing the car from being started when the transmission is not in Park or Neutral. This is found in vehicles that have column shifters. My 90 SSE however prevents starting in gear electrically via a switch on the trans.

Can you clarify where your problem is?
