Dodge Neon Engine???

I heard that the 2000- years of Eclipse's had a Dodge neon Engine in them. My opinion, Neon are garbage. Do the 2000+ eclipse's have different engines in them? <-----hopefully not the neon engines.

the rs and gs had neon engines in them. the gst and gsx didn't. NO the 2000+ have a 4g64 that came in the 95 spyder gs and the gt and gts have a v6 similar to that of the 3kgt

This might help:

95-99 RS/GS Eclipse: 420A
95-99 Spyder N/T Eclipse: 4G64

(95-99?) Neon: 420A

95-99 GST/X Eclipse: 4G63

2000+ RS/GS Eclipse: 4G64
2000+ GT/GTS Eclipse: 3.0 Liter, not sure of engine code

So no, the 2000+ RS/GS Eclipse does not have a neon motor. This probably would have been a better question for the guys over in the 2000+ Eclipse forum, but w/e.

Most people refer to the 420a as a neon motor, but this motor appeared in the eclipse before the neon. It's more like the neon has an eclipse engine. Also the 420a was only equiped in the high trim neon. I'm not 100% sure, but there never was a DOHC neon between '95 & '99, meaning it would have a SOHC 420a????

I'm pretty sure the R/T neon, which was the higher end, had the DOHC 2.0, known as the 420A. The regular neons had the SOHC 2.0. For some reason, the R/T neon has like 150 hp to start, whereas the Eclipse has 140. Anybody know why, or if this is accurate?

I also think that I read somewhere that it had either a 3 speed auto or a 5 speed manual. Why the hell would somebody want the 3 speed auto? That just another reason why the neon sucks dick compared to an eclipse.

I owned a 16V DOHC neon. It was the a 96 Plymouth Neon 5 speed sports coupe.. I know people shit on neons, but that was a fast ass car. It even had that little schoop on the hood the eclipses have.. except it was as big.

That would be 6G72 it is a little different from the 3000GT motor because the 3000GT where DOHC and the GT/GTS are SOHC

I think that the 3g Eclipses and the 2g Stratus Coupes have the same motors in them

actually it is the same motor as the 3kgt. in the early years the n/t 3kgts came w/ a sohc 3.0 . true it is a little refreshed if you will but for all basic terms its the same motor.

Yea there was.

Now there is no "Neon Motor" in any Eclipse. Sure there is a Chrysler 420a motor but its a lot different than a 420a motor in a Neon. For one, the head is different. Intake manifold is on the front and the exhaust manifold is on the rear. They also have different cams. They do however share the same block but the timing components are a little different.

Just thought I would clear some things up.
