so to answer your question, with mini tubs in the back, you could run 11.5in wide tires.

How much does it cost on average to mini-tub the maro

no idea, but probly a few hundred bucks, seeing as there is metal work, welding, and fabrication inolved. also youd have to take out the rear suspension components to get to the area that needed to be worked on.

personally, im running the factory rims with the 245 sized tires, and they look bad ass, and have plenty of grip for traction, unless youre putting down a butt load of power, you really dont need the 11.5in tire and its going to hurt your gas mileage with the large contact area and wind resistance. (think im BSing, look at solar powered cars, 1in wide tires)

so if i get 18" rims would that hurt my performance?

I know the stock iroc tire size is awesome!! Tires are f****** huge and it does look badass!! I hate small tire sizes on certain cars, it just doesn't look right.

actually, running taller tires is the same as putting in shorter gears. so technically it will hurt your acceleration slightly but will allow you to run lower rpms on the highways. but it will be a slight change.

lol, how? if you get bigger rims you would get lower profile tires so the overall diamater of the wheel is the same?, 1 rotation is 1 rotation?

ok well yeah if you do that, but it dosnt always work out perfectly. and more often than not, especially with domestic cars, the bigger tires in the back are much taller than the factory specs. but yes, so long as you get tires with an aspect ratio that will allow your new tire/wheel combo to match the factory specs, it wont affect performance.
