i got 90 civic dx with mpfi swap then i recently did a d16z6 head swap but i cant afford a $350.00 vtec controller right now and im using the si intake and distributor and ecu,so is there anything cheaper i could do too run the vtec? will the car be ok too drive around with the vtec not hooked up intill i can afford a controller? ive heard msd makes something like a vtec controller but i dunno if thats true...

that is a pretty sik link you sent me however my car is obd0 not obd1..i dont have the obd1 conversion so im a lil confused on what too do
because my stock pm6 ecu doesnt come with vtec it is actaully the sohc mpfi non vtec ecu from 88-91 crx/civic si,i found a thing i think might work from summitracing.com the part # is MSD-8950,will this work?? i could set it to have vtec come on at like 5,200 rpm and then i guess it shuts off if the rpm's fall below *5,200* rpm n comes back on when it hits 5200 again? ( 5,200 using as a example )

You could do it via an rpm pill, but, if it were me, I'd get an OBD I vtec ECU, and a jumper harness, then run the wiring like in the link. Reason being is that vtec is controlled by the ECU and is activated under four conditions
1) vehicle speed, via the VSS (vehicle speed sensor)
2) Oil pressure
3) engine temperature
4) Engine speed

Hooking it up through a pill or switch bypasses these parameters, and can be bad for you motor.

if i do that can i still run my si distributor and si intake (si meaning d16a6) and si injectors and resistor box...wont i have to switch all that suff over too obd1? or just the ecu???

Actually...I don't think you can use it all with an OBD I ECU :( Pretty sure the distributor will not work. Look around on that site I lniked you too, there's a lot of OBD 0 guys, and a great OBD 0 specific forum, someone there will have a good solution for ya.

you cold also chip it with turboedit. i think they use the ac wire on the ecu to activate vtec. then you can run a vtec map so you dont run lean up top. or you could activate it with a rpm switch and run a vtec map

how exactly would i do that and is there a website about "turboedit"?? i dont know much about vtecs i just got into them this year i know basic mechanics for 88-91 civics/crx's like i kno how ta change cams n engines but as far as chippin my ecu i dunno how ta do stuff like that although i really want to learn im just not at that level yet so if u can hook me up with info that would be cool

da rite tim3 is wh3N h0nDa say5 so y0!!!!

try typing like a fucking human.

On to better things. To find out the optimal time to engage vtec is, get on a dyno, set vtec (provided you have the ability via a controller) to it's highest setting, do a run, then with it at it's lowest setting, do a run, where the two lines cross is a good point to start, then tune in air fuel and make adjustments as needed.
